The East Coast has not been whole-ly or even -handed ly served.

I agree. But I do contribute at a low-ish level only because what other recourse do we have aside from a grassroots movement that I don't have time for, but would happily contribute to.

Open up Skytop and I'll send a pile of money. Open up all those little crags in state parks festooned in the east and I'll send more.

I witnessed an effort to 'officially' open up a small, fun crag in central NJ years ago. Before the effort cops and park rangers looked the other way. After the effort, it got completely shutdown with prejudice. Sometimes it's best to just leave a good thing a good thing.

Yeah, you're right. You're first name isn't 'Jeff' and last name not starting with a 'G' is it? Because I really really want to punch the Jeff I'm thinking about in the head. And who ever wore a helmet this this place? And triple overhang was the local classic. I soloed that once and I wasn't drunk.

Lucus!,

and

I'll hold him down for you!
I'll take out his knees!

And the caption I used in that picture used to read
"?! The stupidest place to wear a helmet I've ever been!"
Cheers and
there's a bolted anchor there now
(or there was?)

That name just burns me up. I used to climb with him all the time. But he's a supreme dick. I heard he got a heart transplant or something like that after climbing a 5.13 with an image that got published in Climbing rag. I wonder if he even climbs anymore.

So !

I' was the second person to receive a summons for climbing there.

The 1st was the (other) biggest ass-wipe of New Jersey Climbing

the for bullshite - falcon guide author Neil aJ Sloan, ( the fool last name, Nick is no better!)

the J Lucus stuff was ten years after that
( JL,s hart was in the right place, became a hi-end, Only , the #s matter- type )
The cllxfx In '96? I think? And that was after fallen climbers had crawled out and even a life-flte rescue

I'll never get over the stupid JL,
he ruined a place with history. . .
where Bill Schokley, (the old man , Nobel prize winner ) had climbed!

I liked and climbed with Neil. He was the Scientist of the Decade (80's) according to Discovery magazine. Smart guy who had his quirks.

PhD from an Australian University. I know. Talked Taylor Series expansions with him for a few minutes until I forgot how to breath. Still Discover Magazine's Scientist of the Decade (1980s).

Great !!
then I'll tell the story see what you think.

We climbed together all over NJ, he and I were at Watchung and a cop saw us and gave us a chance to just go away.
But Sloan had paper-work from the Bell Labs outing club, and like JL, he started to say he had the right to climb there and tried to hand the cop papers from the club.
The cop smiled and said fine, I'll take your papers - here have some of mine!

I went to court to fight the summons, Neil was supposed to be there too,
we talked 2days before the court date he said he would be there,

I was very young,
he was a Mathematician At Bell Labs , he had standing and position to argue from!

When he did not show , I went down in Flames
Had to pay and say I would not rock climb. ~ It was not clear if that meant state wide?

So that is when I moved to the Gunks,
thrown out of the state of New Jersey for Rock Climbing
Yes, The Gnome of The DIABASE . .,. .was!

Then to add insult he did not give me credit for any of my climbing !

and in the 80s I climbed circles around him
And (?) Jon Macldowny, (I think was the overweight guys name?)

There were a few times - then years later - in the Gunks, when I had witnesses
To what a jerk he had become, (in the end)

he would sit on a rock not interacting
(working out a math problem 1/2 in his head, he was brilliant that way)
Then after not belaying or contributing any thing . . .
would expect a ride - and - not be willing to take down the anchor !

More than once, Knowing that, I said No,

One time the 'City Crew' looked at me and said let him climb.
Can't say but I lost a locking 'biener that day. . . .

You know I will! . . . . . Those shots are to jogg the memories
and are swiped from a Gumby-no0ß off of Mnt Reject.

There was a time when I climbed wit Jeff before he was "bones".
He and Jack M would pick me up at the DunkinDohnuts on Rt 17, before 5, in the morning.
I knew the way to drive the ' back way to Sky Top before a certain crew of heros phooked that up.

So we got to spend the chilly hours at "kitchen-end" before all day sessions on the hill.
then no big walk just drive down to the gate-house well after dark.
