Hopefully Charlie will show up in a few days.
Climbed with him in the early 80's in the Boulder area. Wishing my best for him to pull this one out.

Being 2 weeks overdue in Western China is like being 20 minutes overdue for dinner. Here's hoping they just decided to enjoy an extended vacation!

If there is one climber I've always looked up to and wanted to some day sit down and shoot the sh#t with it's Charlie. Just seems like a kind soul with a heart of gold and a damn good climber on all sides of the board. The kind of person we should all strive to be. Hope we hear from them soon.
Maybe the midget will bring them back, eh Gregory:-)

Charlie is a tough guy. He is also a free spirit. He might well have had a mood to take a strange turn up some valley or onto a ridge. Of the several hundred climbs I've done with him, I've always found him to be an utterly cool head and precise... not likely to make some kind of fundamental blunder. Let's let time play it out and keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

Mountain friends,
All these posts are in good spirit, but I think we need action. There have been troubling things happening along the Tibetan border, underscored this fall's video showing would-be refugees gunned down by Chinese troops near Cho Oyu. Our community must bring this missing persons report to the attention of the State Department so Charlie's and Christine's name are on an official agenda. I am urging Phil Powers and the AAJ to become immediately involved, and have sent an e-mail to Al Read (Exum), currently out of the country, for any contact information he might have. Any other ideas for action, please get in touch with me: angus@jhnewsandguide.com. I'm not certain we should be at the point of mourning as much as investigating. Please write with ideas

You and Christine come home safe, and Charlie, then you can tell me about Tibet. We've always had tons of good fun and good climbs. I miss you. Your friend, Jimmy

Got it.
Please people,
if you want to help out DO NOT mail contributions to the search fund.
IT TAKES TOO LONG.
Funds must be wire transfered.

Yikes! That sounds dire. What an incredibly remote region. I met Charlie once when he went zooming past me down the East Ledges of El Cap, showing me the Better Way down.
Hopes and prayers from Pete

This time of year people are pretty strapped, but I'll be waiting at the bank door to wire three grand to the search effort (detailed info available in this thread).
The time to help is NOW or not at all.
Damon Johnston is co-ordinating the effort. Before I give contact info please note that he is NOT the person to contact for updates etc.
This is for people with useful info, help and so on.

Our best hope now is that they are in jail.
The effort is sending teams to track and distribute flyers.
Please consider helping.

Damn, I'm with Bob, hopefully Charlie and Christine will turn up any day now. He's definitely got a spur-of-the-moment history so no telling what they may have decided to do. I shared a rope a few pitches with him back in the mid-'70s and my main partner Jim Tangen-Foster did the Diamond with him about the same time - no getting around him adding a lot of character to climbing.

Please consider donating by wire transfer (no money, no aircraft. They don't do humanitarian work there.)

Seems a couple calls to people with more money laying around may yield positive results. AAC member, insurance? He is so well known, maybe a few very large manf's could chip in - Black Diamond, Patagonia? I would gladly place the call myself, but I am so out of the loop. Just suggestions.
