Libby and Suzanne have been spending time lately on Aconcagua, and are training to attempt a speed record run on the mountain.

They originally set out as a group of four in early January with Kristina Kurcinka and Teresa Weygandt. The summit push was plagued by some altitude and weather related issues, and they unfortunately had to retreat.

After some rest time in civilization, Libby and Suzanne hiked back in to start preparing for an audacious goal - to beat the park entrance to summit and return record, which stands at 22 hours.

On the 21st, Libby ran from Nido to the summit in 7:45, with a round trip time of 11:15, and is in great shape for their attempt.

Today, Suzanne made her training push, and ran from basecamp to the summit in 8:47, smashing the current woman's speed record by a full 29 minutes!

I've had the opportunity to spend time with Suzanne and photograph some of her adventures, and I'd like to extend a sincere congratulations to her for her latest accomplishment. Knowing the talent and strength of Libby and Suzanne, I am really looking forward to their paired record attempt!

Werner, the next time I see you, we gotta have a talk about the slang the kids are usin' these days :) I hope you're doin OK in all that snow!

And yes, this is the "walk up" route. Even "walk up" routes are quite a challenge, for some of us at least. Summit of Kilimanjaro just about kicked my ass, and that's far lower then what they are doing :)
