Interesting thread. There's some great pics and videos. Thanks for posting.

BITD I basically never put shoes on unless the law mandated it and spent years running around on rocks and shale with no problems. For a time I also worked as a professional painter standing on ladders in no shoes- but it definitely took it's toll. Arthritis in my foot joints makes it uncomfortable to go barefoot for any length of time these days. Climbing in bare feet is definitely too painful to manage- although once in a blue moon I'll indulge in a barefoot lap (for old time's sake) if the climbing is super easy.

any of you guys familiar with pico urriellu (naranjo de bulnes) in spain¿

spanish:
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregorio_P%C3%A9rez_Demar%C3%ADa

el cainejo: He was a hunter and shepherd of the Picos de Europa ... who became famous for guiding (barefoot) Don Pedro Pidal , Marquis of Villaviciosa, in the first ascent of the Pico Urriellu, August of 1904 ...(clip from engl translation:)

btw:
the locals here are still mindblown by this fellow.... what blows my mind: its funny how todays shepherds etc think its totally nuts to go barefoot, but when you talk to them a bit they tell you that their grandfather/mother used to be up on the alm herding cows/sheep/goats without using shoes - lovely

Wow! Not only is Swiss Orange Chip thin 11c edging but it is verging on being an X in places. To do that barefoot is truly impressive.

On a FA in Peru in 1985 with Jack Tackle. I didn't think I could do the chimney with boots so I took them off, climbed it, and then pulled them up after me.

And you'd be right Cosmic. Will took his shoes with him for the ride but never put them on (and he led the whole thing)
