So Trump "saves" a 1000 jobs at Carrier. Then likely slashes exponentially more by threat of cancelling the Boeing order. This incursion into business practices is crazy making. By the time he's done micro managing Big Business they'll pray for regulations just to get him off their backs.

The tariff thing is nonsense since companies will migrate to the next available slave-labor pool.
But 4-billion f'ing dollars for the AF1? That's rape. I applaud any attempt at chopping the gov't excesses down to size. At 4 billion though, it's hardly even a drop in the bucket. Without chopping our MIC expenditures by 50% or more it won't matter one little bit. That will result in massive MIC job losses here which ultimately will be a good thing. Lots of pain in the short term however...

There's probably all sorts of one-off type of double-double-secret stuff in Air Force One that is crazy expensive. Who knows? Mr. Trump is going to very busy if he intends to weigh in on every govt. contract and corporate decision.

About that Pentagon study of how to magically eliminate "waste"
Everyone knows the government is inefficient. That is not news.
The government is not run like a business. Anyone who claims it can be run like a business is nuts. There is no profit motive. Any fake system to create a fake profit motive is a fallacy.
You can't just magically make it efficient and still follow all the rules imposed by the legislators.
Look at what happened to the DDG1000 class destroyers, which was supposed to be a mostly private development by Raytheon, as decided by Congress. They never fully worked, but years later after capping construction at only 3 expensive ships, the Navy has to somehow incorporate them into the fleet.
Most actions by the federal government including DOD have to pass a list of 1000 rules imposed by congress. Actions require at least 10 approvals, each of which adds their own requirements in order to please auditors both inside and outside the department and agency, whose job it is to make a mountain out of a molehill, while ignoring elephants just outside the room.

The Defense Business Board was ordered to conduct the study by Deputy Defense Secretary Robert O. Work, the Pentagon’s second-highest-ranking official. At first, Work publicly touted the efficiency drive as a top priority and boasted about his idea to recruit corporate experts to lead the way.
After the board finished its analysis, however, Work changed his position. In an interview with The Post, he did not dispute the board’s findings about the size or scope of the bureaucracy. But he dismissed the $125 billion savings proposal as “unrealistic” and said the business executives had failed to grasp basic obstacles to restructuring the public sector.
“There is this meme that we’re some bloated, giant organization,” he said. “Although there is a little bit of truth in that . . . I think it vastly overstates what’s really going on.”
Work said the board fundamentally misunderstood how difficult it is to eliminate federal civil service jobs — members of Congress, he added, love having them in their districts — or to renegotiate defense contracts.
He said the Pentagon is adopting some of the study’s recommendations on a smaller scale and estimated it will save $30 billion by 2020. Many of the programs he cited, however, have been on the drawing board for years or were unrelated to the Defense Business Board’s research.
Work acknowledged that the push to improve business operations lost steam after then-Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel was replaced by Ashton B. Carter in February 2015. Carter has emphasized other goals, such as strengthening the Pentagon’s partnerships with high-tech firms.
“We will never be as efficient as a commercial organization,” Work said. “We’re the largest bureaucracy in the world. There’s going to be some inherent inefficiencies in that.”

So the orange shitgoblin is taking credit for Softbank making a 50 billion dollar investment in the US and bringing 50k jobs. I can not believe he went to Wharton and his understanding of economics is that bad. Buying up US businesses will eliminate jobs. On the other had he might be a bold faced liar, hasn't he lied before.
Softbank actually worked up a deal with the Saudis prior to the election in which they planned to invest 100 billion in buying tech businesses, the buffoon had nothing to do with it, but he is not shy about taking credit.

So true. One of the factors I take into consideration when making large expenditures is how it might affect what I will leave to my son. Since he's likely to remain around Santa Cruz i think about what he'll inherit from me as less of a discretionary "bonus" and that it will probably need to go toward real expenses of buying a house or a buffer to keep his head above water.

Emoluments Clause of the Constitution (Article I, Section 9, Clause 8):
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.
Emolument: "a salary, fee, or profit from employment or office."
This will be an issue next month.
