And right now, to celebrate the transition from a trying day to a pleasant evening (while at the same time doing something for the environment -- see the link at the bottom of this post), I am enjoying a lovely blonde...

Black Butte will get old on you after awhile, you'll grow tired of the chocolate.
A cool "heads up" from Studly on the fluoride free beer. The website is even better. At 3 beers a day (I know, trying to get it down to 2) I think I'll go without the fluoride additive thank you.

I am on the edge of giving up beer.
Not that I want to give up beer. I love beer. But unless I can somehow delete what I saw yesterday from my memory, I don't know if I'll ever be able to raise a glass again.
Yesterday, at the end of the afternoon, we went to The Beer Junction. I'd call it a bottle shop, but it's far more than that. With over 1,300 bottles and 50 taps, and just 10 minutes from my home, it's been my go-to beer joint for the last five years.
But yesterday?
My god. It was...
Well, you decide. Steve and I had picked up our pints at the bar and then found a place to sit. But, having got myself seated, and taken the first sip, I looked around...
...and saw this:
I don't know if the photo will convey the enormity, but... butt... Holy Beer Butt, Batman!!

After the enormity of the beer butt in the above post, there was only one thing to do...
Brew!
The hop farm (a patch in my garden) was ripe for harvest...
Looking so good...
With that available, I mashed up what will become a mid-strength (~7%) east coast style IPA, and, once the boil was well under way, dumped in about two-thirds of this...
Added the other third at flame out.
If you're in Seattle about three weeks from now, and thirsty, there'll be fresh-hop IPA on tap.

serve it up ICE cold, in a glass, and enjoy.
I find that those go a lot farther when your at Stoney Point and the thirsty lads ask whats in the ice chest.
And Ghost.... I had to quit brewing beer because if I did not, my butt was going to look like that.....
nice hops, i wish I was going to be in Seattle in 4 weeks.
Do you bottle it in 12oz? Or?

It's a mix of hops, most of which I can't even remember. There are six plants in that patch, at least four varietals -- maybe five. Centennial for sure, maybe Cascade, Chinook, Nugget, Mt. Hood, Willamette... Can't remember what got into that patch and what didn't. But definitely no Citra or Mosaic or anything cool and modern.
Do you bottle it in 12oz? Or?

Quite a lot of big butts (and big guts) in the beer joints around here. That one just stood out because of the way it was encased.

Keg.... good to know.
If I ever start up the old Brewery again it will be Keg only.
When I was doing it a ton, it was only bottles, lots and lots of bottles. Washing and sterilizing 66 bottles was a pain....
opening up and sampling all of the different beers was making my whole body grow in size... so I gave it up "for climbing."

If I ever start up the old Brewery again it will be Keg only.
Kegging is a lot easier and more convenient in many respects, but there is also a place for bottles.
Still, there is the issue of the keg farm in my cellar...
And then there are a few more kegs in the fridges...
