Did someone drive through the unlocked gate? That gate is unlocked a lot for easy CalTrans access. Doesn't really make it OK to do that though.

My guess is those boulders are season closing for 120. Road damage under them is probable. New road bed too.

We had a boulder this size come down when we had our trucks above it one winter TPR was open. Luckily it stayed intact and rolled over just enough to
allow us by. However, it dug a trench all the way across and through the road, cutting it in two. It stayed that way until spring.

The removal of boulders is part the national policing initiative based on the 'Broken Windows' theorem. BITD, this was used as the excuse to rid the Icicle Creek near Leavenworth, WA of the fabled Face Climbing boulder on the pretext that the road needed widening for safety reasons. In reality the road needed widening so heavy equipment could get up there to build McMansions and druve out the undesirables. Don't let this happen, Dirtbags!

hossjulia, not to worry about "that"... No one unauthorized was taking that pic. It's from Cal Trans.

But I'd hike up there in a heartbeat if I lived there to send the ephemera.

That's a stellar paint job on the center lines.

Maybe check under the boulder for what's left of an inebriated guy pushing a spray cart?

hossjulia, did this boulder have a name ?

I remember you telling me a lot of the precarious looking boulders had been given names waiting for their eventual plummet on to the 120

The only hanger I knew the name of was the monkey's butt, don't know if it's still there or not.

Glad CalTrans got to have some fun with those.

I should be headed over 120 next week, glad they are planning on opening it again, maybe tomorrow?

Julia, wish I could join you. Give them my hugs and howdy's, please. In a few months I'll be in Carson Valley :)

I haven't see Monkey's Butt for a couple of seasons and really looked for it. Only thing I can figure is it slid into an unrecognizable position or it too became pebbles. Cheers, L.

Too bad they already got rid of it. I keep looking for the opportunity to make a last ascent.
