My HP Photosmart 8450 no longer prints the excellent photos it once did. I bought it years ago....it was a lucky purchase.
Anyone out there have suggestions on what I can buy to replace it? Need to print out photos for a project.
Thanks, lynnie

I think we have one. Rarely used. Doesn't it have a replaceable cartridge?

Have you tried anything like "nozzle cleaning" or "head alignment" or "head cleaning" with it?
The machine will do it itself, but you have to tell it to.

Thanks zBrown and Chaz. I've tried pretty much everything. The color throws in appropriate streaks of pinks and lavenders.
I think it is just worn out. It's at least 15+ years old. I need to find a replacement that has done the job as well as this one has.
zBrown, do you live in Josh? If yours works well I would buy it from you. But I need really good quality pics printed.

Thanks, Jim. I've always loved my Canon cameras. My budget is not great. But I live out in the country and it is so inconvenient to have to go into town to have prints made or to even send them off to shutterfly etc. when I'm in the midst of creating something.
What kind do you have and how much was it? Cheers, L.
Edit: No problem zBrown, thanks for jumping in to say Howdy.

Lynne: Since Hedi & I have a home office, we used to do a lot of printing. We had HP printers last for many years before dying. However we bought a price point HP printer for Heidi at Costco two years back, that came with a 2nd port for printing 4 x 6 photos, as well as 8 1/2 X 11 photos & documents, and it had a nice custom card-making program included. The printer died in 8 months, with not much use.
We are getting 4 - 5 years of use out of Canon printers and like the photo quality. I think they have a series designed for printing photos. However, their ink prices are high. It hurts every time we buy more.
I do think all the printer companies make their profits off of ink & selling consumers inexpensive printers.
I would strongly suggest checking customer reviews before buying.

Thanks again zBrown and also Fritz. They do make the $ off the ink. Thanks for reminding me to check replacement cartridges before I buy.
Love the name of where you live Fritz.....Choss Creek :)

How is a $50 printer going to give you better prints than the multi-thousand dollar rigs an
online outfit will use for you? The only negative (pun intended) is time. Surely somebody
near you offers decent quality at reasonable prices?

Hey Reilly, I think our HP cost about$600 when we purchased it new. I was not thinking $50. It takes @ 30-60 minutes to get to a place that does good quality prints for me. I have quite a few photos that I need to make decisions about and don't want to pay professional rates if they are not quite what I'm looking for after I print them.
I just want a nice printer that also does good quality photos. Thought someone out there might have one they could recommend.

Well, you could have 4x6 proofs done for cheap. The printer market is so competitive that you
just have to decide what you can afford. Granted HP, Epson, and Canon can charge more than
Kyocera and the other chasers so one of the latter could give you more bang for yer buck.
Reading reviews on Amazon can be pretty helpful especially for the off name brands.

Werner thanks for the info. I'm starting to check them out. Cheers, Lynne
