Every Christmas in Toronto, ol' G. F. Handel returns from Heaven, and conducts his Messiah.
It is Gott's favourite, you see. And you don't say no to Gott.
Anita and I were there last year, or maybe it was the year before. There are about 23 tenors, and a thousand sopranos. I sing bass, but sing some of the tenor bits too. I've sung Messiah so many times, I don't even need the score.

J.S. Bach returns from Heaven, and conducts his Messiah.
Bach did not write The Messiah. George Frederick Handel did. Beautiful as it is, Bach would never have written such a musically simple work, except perhaps for students.

It is interesting that Bach and Handel were contemporaries in the most precise meaning of the word. They were both born in 1685 and both died in 1750.

The Messiah is OK but it doesn't put the fear of God into you like a good requiem.
