I just moved to South Lake Tahoe for work and am hoping to take advantage of the after-work sunlight while it lasts. I'd like to find some places close to town that I can hit after work for some solo training...4th/easy 5th with a somewhat short approach. Probably 2 hours or less round trip.
Any suggestions? I'd also accept unsolicited advice about climbing in South Tahoe and meeting other climbers here!

Luther Rock
Luther Rock has some of South Lake Tahoe’s finest 5.10-5.11 sport climbing. The granite is surprisingly strange, with several, varied edges, vertical overhangs, and streaks.
Getting There
From the junction of Highway 89 and 50 in Meyers, drive 3.4 miles south on Highway 89 and park in the third paved pullout on the right, just after you start up the grade. Ascend the bank on the opposite side of the road to find the climbers’ trail.
Approach
The arduous climbers’ trail is 0.5 miles long, gains 900 feet in elevation, and takes 30-40 minutes. At the end of the climbers’ trail, ascend a steep, talus gully. Once level with the cliff you desire to climb (Detox Wall is the lower cliff, Distillery Wall is the upper cliff), move out of the talus gully.
Luther Spires
Visit Luther Spires for an excellent introductory crash course in Lake Tahoe sport climbing. The routes vary in height from 25-60 feet and have numerous, well-sheltered bolts. Get your feet wet on routes like “Jane Spy”, “Dog and Gri Gri, Two Bucks”, and “Beer and Hot Dog, Two Bucks.”
Getting There
From the junction of Highway 89 and 50 in Meyers, drive well past the Luther Rock pullout to Big Meadow Trailhead. Park on the left side of the Highway 89, 0.4 miles past Big Meadow Trailhead, in a parking area next to several boulders.

Go for Flagpole Peak. Do the ridge proper. It's exactly what you are looking for. Do Freel Peak on a mountain bike. Nice view from Castle Rock and some easy solos there. Get ready to ski every day.

My favorite is Eagle Lake buttress
The Eagle route is one of the best routes at 5.6
Two hours car to car.

I dare say:
Go past 90 foot wall
Stay on the right side of creek
Hike through level forest
Straight up the slabs
Bingo!
