“There are three sports that try a man, bullfighting, motor racing and mountain climbing. All the rest are recreations."

Often quoted as Ernest Hemingway but it may be somebody else. But who cares.

Never tried bullfighting (nor would I ever). I did race motorcycles for a while, in the canyons, very dangerous (but just to me and my fellow racers) and pretty fun. And climbing mountains or rock routes (just to me and my fellow climbers).

What else is there now. Bungy jumping doesn't count, Arial sports like base jumping for sure does.

What other sports takes the skill to "try a man" or women these days.

Cut and paste this to your browser for a MC clip if you want.

Ok I appreciate the the response but fist fighting doesn't count. Or maybe it does but it's not what I had in mind

Friend of mine was smoking the locals at the pool table at a very "local" bar. He is a very dorky looking kind of of guy but very athletic. And he really PLAYS the pool table well. His opponent leans across the table and a 6" knife comes up over his shirt in the back. Fortunately he was a good looser.

PW, I thought that it was Boxing, man against man. Bullfighting, man against beast, motor racing, man against machine and mountain climbing, man against nature. . .

This was a dictum that we passed around quite a bit, always believing it was from race car driver Marquis de Portago. Here is a guy who has looked into the matter:

http://www.barrypopik.com/index.php/new_york_city/entry/auto_racing_bullfighting_and_mountain_climbing_are_the_only_real_sports_all .

It probably does not matter who came up with it, but to my pals and I it was sort of romantic. Or chilling.

Hortum should be Hurtum?

No sabbe. :0)

Why can't we simply all be mindless and go out and avoid stomping on creepy-crawlies?
