I have a heavy duty sewing machine and I'm interested in making some sturdy items out of haul bag material. All the searches I have done online have gone nowhere. Finding a source for "Vinyl coated nylon" has evaded me.
I bought a few yards of 32oz vinyl coverd polyester and the toughness is rather disappointing.
The closest thing I have found is a company in Texas selling Hypalon for $65/yard....

What you're looking for is woven landfill liner. I scored some on a remediation project long ago. Tan colored and insanely stout, I couldn't tell it from the stuff A5 was using at the time. A sailrite machine is one of the few things that'll get through several layers of that stuff.
Heavy as sh#t, though!
On the other hand, heavy duty coated fabrics from an awning shop will work for a few hauls.....but that's about it.

Locker, it's called 'mark up'
Clothing does it a 70% over cost, and that's a finished product.
Go big, sell it at 80% over cost, and unfinished.
=making millions bud!

This company always had good stuff for short runs.
http://www.owfinc.com
But the best stuff is over 28oz/yard. Vinyl covered polyester ok, but 28-32oz urethane coated materials the best.
Looks like Seattle has some vinyl product. http://www.seattlefabrics.com/vinyl.html
Best to order samples before making any buys.

None of the places mentioned or linked sell Vinyl covered Nylon. They are all vinyl covered polyester.
The base of Nylon is called the scrim. All types of searches and nothing gets me covered Nylon haul material...

Thinking about it I don't remember ever seeing vinyl coated nylon. Have you ever procured it before?
After a quick search my guess is you are not going to find it. I did talk to a mill owner once that said he could make whatever custom fabric for me. All I had to order is one mill run. Two or three 18 wheelers worth in one run. Not into aid climbing but the bags I made were tested by putting rocks in them and dragging them down the road behind a truck.

Definitely aware of Deuce's background. The sites he referenced I have been on and I actually have Vinyl covered Polyester for a few different projects.
The vinyl covered polyester just doesn't stand up to abuse like haul bag material.
Posting on here was my last resort before giving up. I never plan to make a haul bag but I'd like smaller bags and I want to make a sack for my portaledge. Frame on it is done. Waiting for the bedding material in the mail.

Yes Locker. That is an option. Don't usually see cheap used haul bags.

Fish bags are made of 32oz vinyl coated polyester, it's a pretty good haul bag material. We used that material at A5 also for many years, then we were able to procure 28-36 ounce urethane coated material in the early 90's. The urethane material is much tougher. We got it from Seaman fabrics--full price is about $40/yd (it was originally designed for heavy duty Millitary fuel field storage), but we were able to get seconds for much cheaper, as we didn't need full rolls of perfect material (we cut out any bad bits).
The issue with companies like Seaman (and even Top Value and Brookwood whom are big suppliers to the outdoor industry) is that you need to have pretty sizable minimum orders. They don't generally allow any short run retail sales. You can always see how big a sample you can get, thou!
