Thanks Folks

The myriad messages posted to me were sustaining, it seemed impossible to keep my spirits down, especially when my initial trials when daunting.
First, I must remind you, I was very lucky. After the few days, I was walking and balancing. I able to eat and swallow. I seemed able to understand everybody talking. I may have exaggerated my comprehension, I will never know, but I think it was pretty good.

Lack of stamina and strength are my biggest physical shortcomings, during my recovery. Again, I am very lucky. The injury in my brain is almost totally localized in speech centers. Hearing and reading rebounded (e.g. read books) quickly, at least not too slowly.

Writing is very difficult. The order of words, conjunctions, adverbs, have been problematic. Friends have been confused whether I meant before or after, yes or no, left or right, below or above. Simple texts are massive processes of editing.

I am still unable to transcribe phone numbers. Sometimes I need a friend to need write a number in a voicemail. Arithmetic, which was always easy, has been a bit of a jumble.

Speech is problem number one, though. I talk with spurts of coherence and fluency and few seconds. At though times, I haven't get the words out of my mouth. Pronouncing the words can be laborious, but the process comes out with the right sound finally.

Assessment: that I have improved amazingly well during the last four months.

Assessment: need to improve much more before my best gains slow down.

I can climb.
I can dance.

I am fortunate to have a wonderful set of friends. I have been buoyed by you. I could not have made it without you.

Thanks,
steve

That makes my heart sing.
YES, INDEED!

And, I'm pretty sure your Occupational Therapists feels likewise, since getting booted out of OT secondary to achieving a "high functioning level" is a good thang, like graduating with an A+! Congrats!! JFM (OTR/L)
