Driving down 395 this afternoon, I noticed a big plume of smoke, obviously from a wildfire. It seemed to be located near Bald Mountain. Sure enough! From the Arcularius Ranch on the Owens River Road, you could clearly see the side of Bald Mountain burning. The fire appeared to be burning back into Clark Canyon. I hope we don't lose all those big shade trees!

Just watched one of the Huey's flying towards Bishop...Maybe the fire is contained...? Or maybe The Chief hijacked it..?

There wrapping up air ops for the night according to wildlandfire.com. If the winds pick up this could blow up by the AM. Current forecast has gusts to 20MPH.

Sharon and I were climbing there when it started. There had been some raindrops and some thunder. Later I saw that some of the low clouds were yellow-orange instead of gray.

So we retrieved our draws and pulled down our rope and jogged back down to the parking. The flames were not much more than 100 yards from the road as we were driving out.

There's a trough coming in with winds and cooling...Wonder if the fire made it up to the old fire look out on top of Bald...?

RJ, I read, on another site, that they were going to try and save the lookout.

Forecast today is for fairly light winds--5 to 10 mph. Wishing the fire fighters safe and effective fire fighting!

Plop the houses in the desert and pipe the water flowing through the timber over to make an oasis housing cluster that is easier to defend against against Mother Nature.

According to the roadside display on the old mill on 120, that is still the largest Jeffery pine forest in the world.

I read on the inciweb that it was estimated to be 200 acres 12 hours ago.

About 20 years ago I was climbing at Clark and we noticed a smoker from a lightning strike high on the hill SE from the climbing area. I was thinking I sure don't want to hike up there, I'm not at work. Thankfully showers returned that pm and it got doused.

10b4me....There's also an old FS outhouse up there and a cabin that the sledders use for a warming hut in the winter...Have a friend that lived in the lookout...Great parties with a view...Let's hope it doesn't do too much damage..

Jesus Bombz...I think most people build homes in the forests because it's better than living in a stucco housing tract and battling commuter logjams....And there are not any homes in Clark Canyon...But i get what you're saying...

If it's in Alpers too, sounds like it is moving to the west.
