One of our good friends was in line at the Post Office today. She is half Philipino and half Austrian, with her 2 and 3 year olds in tow. And old white guy proceeds to turn around and tell her, in front of her kids, that she will be going home soon "Now that we have a Real American President." It devestated her, and she had to get out of line to go cry in her car. The awfulness has been legitimized and brought into the open.

That's incorrect. The Republicans rejected everything about the bill, and they were not "placated" by the removal of the public option.
That is correct, they were not placated, however the public option was removed in an attempt to work with them. So even when they were given the system first established by their own presidential candidate they balked.
Why? Because they value what's good for their lobbyists more than they value what's good for America.
The Democrats are marginally better. Not much, though.

All the protests and cancelled classes... the wallowing in self-pity... the eeyoresque fatalism... it's all pathetic. Are we really just a nation of wilting pansies? I don't like all the drama shown by our 20-somethings, but I get it. It's a reflection of their zeitgeist. What I don't get is older liberals are wallowing in it, too. Trump won! It sucks! I voted for Hillary. The results blew me away. Instead of perpetuating this nationwide pity party, perhaps we should all be looking at how we can come to terms with this situation. And how to make the best of it.
Edit: About the story at Shasta HS, that kid should be expelled.
