Now lets wait for the wall to stop all from leaving...

Oddly, I said to my wife yesterday that I hope the wall was not like the Berlin Wall...

She was supposes to laugh.

I seem to be priced out of the individuals market with the sole remaining AK insurer informing me my new 2017 premium is $3260 a month with a $6500 deductible.

The other point I'll make Rick is this (not sure whether you agree or disagree on this one): it's obscene how much profit-driven health insurance companies take advantage of a completely captive audience.

The Government is not much of a problem in our current system. The problem is huge corporations that have all the power (tried negotiating with Blue Cross over your premium lately?) and which are governed by profit only.

The pendulum has swung too far in the direction of unfettered capitalism; we need a leveling of the playing field so that there is again a semblance of competition.

People laugh when I compare Bernie Sanders to Teddy Roosevelt.

But if you exclude foreign policy, the comparison is very close. Both wanted to re-level, to re-balance a capitalist system that is/was generally sound, that is/was a fantastic generator of wealth. But which is/was tilted way too far in favor of wealth.

EDIT:

The whole body of propaganda that Bernie was about "free stuff" was just that, nonsense generated to protect big money interests. He was about fixing a system that's way out of balance.

If our new dear leader is successful and adheres to his stated path I'm sure the replacement for the unaffordable care act will have a sizable socialistic element. You didn't pay a whole hell of a lot of attention Mtnyoung. Trump ran as much against the big global corporate interests as he did against the current make up of U.S. government. In fact, he named it as one and the same numerous times.

Not sure where that's coming from.

To the extent that Trump said anything coherent during the campaign, everything you typed might well be true. And nothing I've said on this thread has disagreed.

My objections to Trump have nothing to do with what might turn out to be his domestic policy agenda (excluding environmental issues from this statement - one of my really big worries about "our new dear leader" is that he'll be all bets off on the environment).

And that's my best hope. No not the actual environment, but instead the phony doomsday scenarios that are pushed to enslave the populous to their global corporatist masters.

I might be pushing it here, Rick, you've probably got other things to do today (I do too - I'm leaving in a few minutes to do bolt replacement with my daughter).

But yeah, I do pay a lot of attention. And I don't recall much from Trump that was coherent to start with (and yeah it bugs the sh#t out of me that our new president can speak a whole paragraph and not actually say anything).

So I don't recall much that he communicated that was particularly "...against the big global corporate interests." I'd love to see any citations or links that back this up. Maybe I did miss stuff.

(And yeah, finding links takes time and energy, I know. So maybe you don't post them, I get it.)

I showed this simple spreadsheet I made earlier, which didn't seem to get much of a response. This time I made the rows accurately represent the term length to better emphasize the point.

Notice the pattern of 8 years of red followed by 8 years of blue, the only exception being the 4 year Democrat run by the Carter administration followed by the l2 year Reagan/Bush run. If you were to move one 4-year-term of the Reagan/Bush run over to the Dems, the striped pattern would be perfect -- like the stripes of Old Glory practically.

It would appear that the American electorate have this built-in tendency to throw out the current party after 8 years. It seems to take extraordinary events to overcome this social inertia, like the Iran hostage crisis which hurt the incumbent Carter administration and the fall of the Berlin Wall, which helped the republicans (Bush) retain the white house following Reagan's success (luck).

I'm thinking that Elon Musk might be right about us being in a computer simulation.

What I am astonished by, is how quickly he is backing away from his promises.

-no Wall
-no repeal of Obamacare
-no deportation of illegals
-no special prosecutor for Hillary

Wow. I expected him to fail in much of this, but I didn't expect this drawback in the first week!

of course he's pulling back. He's a con man. He has little intention of living up to anything he promised. He just said most of that sh#t because he knew his mouth breathing following would swallow it hook, line and sinker. Now that he's been elected he doesn't need them any more.

You might want to look at Pence's agenda. He'll be POTUS in 12 months - 18 max.

He sold them snake oil, they bought it.

I knew exactly what I was getting with Hillary.

It would behoove republicans to remember they lost 6 of the last 7 presidential elections.

"You might need to start living as though another Hillary will never come along :)"

I have no idea where that came from.

I find no saviors in any of them. If America really wanted change they would voted out most of the ones who makes the law and elect a president who could have least won the majority vote.

I was thinking about how ugly it would have been if Hillary had won.

Trump spent years subverting and delegitimizing the Obama administration, it's hard to imagine what he was setting up in the case Clinton won. Contesting the election results would only have been the beginning.

All we can hope for is that not all Republicans on the hill vote partisan all the time. It'll be interesting to see if someone is brave enough to buck the trend and show us there's something sane going on.

Jesus, all those idiot pollsters and pundits and prognosticators had to do was look at a chart of parties and presidential elections and they would have figured out that Trump was gonna be president and not 90% Clinton! Damn, maybe my mistake was that I needed to use a different font.

Did you see the USA - Mexico World Cup qualifier??!! That damn Obama-appointed CIA rigged it for Mexico! I blame Obama.

If only other people had the masterful grasp of information and information processing that I have we wouldn't be in this mess.

Yea sure :-)

*Donald Trump is the best player on the terrorist organization’s team, and they couldn’t be happier that he won the election.

Trump’s victory drew celebration from ISIS fighters on social media, and the comments should make Americans regret their decision to put such an inexperienced person in the White House.

*“I am optimistic about Trump’s victory because he is a stupid, arrogant, hubristic bull who is dumber than Bush,” another ISIS fighter said.

*“Trump’s vulgarity will embarrass (Arab) tyrants and enlarge the field of jihad,” one fighter wrote. “If Trump wins, it’s in our favor,” another said.

*“If we can inflame the dissension and troubles in their countries maybe they’ll withdraw,” wrote another, signaling that ISIS may try to stoke fear and violence among Americans.
