Didn't seem all that warm when I was swimming in it yesterday evening. If you go down below 6' or so it gets pretty chilly. The surface temp does seem warmer than normal.
The water in Lake Tahoe is like medicine. When you swim in it, you feel the "10,000 kisses" of the wonderful lake.
Here's what our illustrious Tom Carter is up to:

He's actually progressed to removing engines and transmissions from the bottom of the lake and has received several awards for what he's doing. He free dives down and rolls them along the bottom to the shore. These engines were dropped into the lake to be used as anchors for buoys for boats on the surface. He actually rolled a model T motor/transmission combination and I helped him load it into his van. Sucker was HEAVY-heavier than some of the v8's he's removed. I think he's up to 7 or 8 engines now.

How deep do they measure? I bet it's pretty warm ( technically, not on a human comfort scale) fairly far down.
Probably still nippy at the -1800' level though
Edit I can remember how cold it waswimming down to the anchors of the buoys @ xtal bay in the 90's. Only dogged stubbornness, got me down there! All enveloping, bone freezing cold....

come on Jody. You are a bright guy. The argument about global warming is that there is nothing that we can do until we get China on board. What we do won't help anything until Chian agrees to behave the same way as everyone else.
Not that I am necessarily for some of the rules being proposed. I have a much different belief about global warming. i do believe it is man caused. But I have a spiritual perspective. The main cause is greed and heartlessness. Thats pretty hard to put a stop to. Well, I wonder if I that will cause me to reach Klimmer status as the local taco nutcase.. heh heh..
as for cherry picking peoples statements.. well, I thought you of all people would understand the dangers of doing that. ( hint, its church related )

I sure loved living in South lake tahoe in the 70s. Lots of fun there. I use to swim with the local polar bear club on new years day. I dig that Tom Carter video. Thanks Tom for helping clean things up.

Huh. Mid-summer the lake has always been pretty warm near the surface. Loved swimming there on rest days from the crags. Tahoe climbing is great! I'll be so happy to be closer to it when I move to Bishop next year. Keep Tahoe Blue, yo.

This is one of my favorites. Back in the 30's, 40's and 50's, lakefront homeowners used to pull their water directly from the lake. Many of these pipes are still laying on the bottom, stretched out hundreds of feet into the lake. Carter, in his quest to clean up at least a small area of Lake Tahoe, started taking a hacksaw to the bottom and cutting these pipes into sections and running them to the shore.
Here's a video of him running with a section of pipe. Wait for it. You can hear the whine of boat motors if you turn your sound up.
