I used 10lb galvanized steel wire. The first time, I only looped it once around the trigger. The single loop became loose and made the trigger ineffective after 30ish placements.
This time, I've looped it twice and secured the tail through the loops. My only concern is that the wires may contact the rock when cleaning a really tight placement, either getting stuck or damaging the wires.
Anything else I should worry about?

Hey Mei! I needed a quick fix at the time because this piece protects the crux moves on one of my projects. I didn't want to wait around until the wire arrived. Seeing how well the ghetto fix worked made me try and do it again.

Jim,
My partner Bob (cragnshag) uses that kind of wire also (not sure about exact specs, but it looks the same).
It's easy to install.
It seems the main drawback is that there is no warning like a frayed cable before it breaks.
