Patty and I will be there! But Patty is out with de quervain's tenosynovitis on both wrists, so I will probably be looking for a partner on Friday to hold the rope on some easier stuff for me (first pitch of Captain Nemo comes to mind, and if you want to finish the route I will follow. Just don't expect me to get it without hanging.). I will gladly return the favor on whatever you are up for.

There's a remote possibility I may drop by on Sunday. I'd love to hook up with someone for a quick jaunt up either Walt's Wall or Edward's Crack.
Saturday is my granddaughter's 13th BD, so I'm already committed there.

21 pounds of fish ordered out of Hawaii.

As an aside.... next April is the 10th anniversary of SushiFest. I'm reserving the group site at Snow Canyon State Park.... err... I mean at Creek Pasture at the creek.

we could hear you all the way from the duuuuuuunes....

The 10th Anniversary of SushiFest might be the last one for awhile. given how wrecked I was from the last SF it's tough to want to continue that. On the flip side it's a pretty low turnout for this one. I'm actually glad of that as I've been spread super thin. I still feel like I need to be studying for orals for my PPL. But six people for friday is more like us having dinner and not having a fest.

Are .10b offwidths generally considered a good warm-up?

Let's see, there was vulture poop, gear hauling, cam dropping, stick throwing, anchor skipping, and nerve pinching for starts. Pretty standard, really.

More pics for the armchair traveler.

Friday afternoon I drove up Poudre Canyon, north of Ft Collins, because it looked nice on the map. It was a beautiful drive, but a wee bit "pasturey " at the end.

I found the group and parked in a flat spot, then went out to stretch my legs.

Amble back as the sun sets and join the small but enthusiastic sushiers.

Saturday

Greg took the first lead, which we all epiced on in our own way.

I managed to fall out after the crux, even though this is one of only 4 climbs I've done previously here. I was only 53 then and full of youthful ignorance, but this trip the Woo kicked my tired arse.

Sushi and sunsets make great consolation.

Sunday

Eventually..... I jumped on the sharp end for Curreys Diagonal, pumping out just shy of the tree. On a positive note, I now have a route to return to when I'm fresh; t part I did was stellar and promises more to come.

BIG thanks to Doug and Aya for an amazing job. Cheers!

Trad climber

Aug 15, 2016 - 01:18pm PT
Either the one I am on or the crack to the left is called Event Horizon (5.10b or c?). This is the Forever War area. Nature got some cool video of me on this via the drone. As the drone pans out you can see that this whole formation is a bunch of stacked fins. It's directly behind Reynold's Hill. This area is not in any of the guidebooks or Mountain Project.

Edit: Maybe Nature could post a still-shot from a panned out vantage of the Forever War area. I think the panned-out shots are way more interesting than the close-in from a still-shot standpoint. Having said that, the pan-out that Nature did on the drone video is absolutely incredible!

Hey, so I'm in love with that panned-out photo that Nature posted. I mean, just focus for an instant on the colorful parts of the rock -- it really is remarkable. I said stacked fins, but that's clearly not right. I see only one fin. More like stacked, vertically-elongated blocks or something. Forever War, the climb that Pamela "Shanti" Pack at one point claimed is the hardest OW at Vedauwoo, is the prominent crack on the far right of that central, awesome crag. The hard part of the climb, unfortunately, is obscured by that tree. By the way, if you haven't, look at the picture in the magnified view, do.

One more thing about that photo. This area sports some of the best wide-crack climbing at Vedauwoo, most of which is visible in this photo. In addition to Forever War (5.12 - 5.13) and Event Horizon (5.10b; assuming it is the one that I led) is
1. Bloodletting (5.11c), a a hand- and fist-crack gem which is the leftmost good-looking crack in the photo (middle-tier);
2. the crack on the left side of the fin down-low (5.10a);
3. a crack to the left of (2) that starts off as a 5.12 OW boulder problem
4. a 5.10 crack just to the left of (3)
5. a beautiful 5.10+ - 5.11- OW on the opposite side of the crag from the photographer's (drone's or Nature's) vantage of this formation

Uh, since I already missed the belay bolts when I was leading because I was facing the other way (Doh!), I ALSO would not be seeing the face -- so I'm not the one to tell you.

By the way, a climb that was not even on my radar is the obvious one that starts in the crack to the left of me and then diagonals up and left, relatively early.

Okay, so I've pretty-much been a jock my whole life and love a good challenge. Here's my challenge to myself. To lead or solo every one of those crack climbs in the same day. I already know that I can down-climb the other side. You heard it here. It's the photo -- it beckons me...
