10 mm seems excessive. Eight would do nicely, it's only body weight.
Not a good suggestion . . . 8mm is sketchy for this application.

10mm is a good choice, cut resistance, and easier on the hands.

Hey folks-
I’m resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has any input or further though since the last time this got discussed.
I want a ~100m static for recon/ minitracking on vertical-ish Wingate. Thinking the 10mm sterling safetypro that Mikey Schaefer recommended. Grigri2, petzl minitraxions. Very familiar with this rig, know IMGD and just looking for rope beta. Thanks kids.

For fixed top-roping applications with minimal expectation of high loading on the static rope, I would look for a rope with a thicker sheath. More stuff to consider (variables discussed in the context of canyoneering ropes):

i've really liked this guy. when I bought mine, I was able to find it on sale pretty easily as well, making it a good bit cheaper than most. not sure what the stretch % is, but it has seemed fine to me.
If you're going over 100m, the petzl push 9mm weight savings is pretty nice. I just used a brand new 200m one and had no concern. It did fuzz up a good bit in some parts though, as could be expected.
