Nice. Love the smile-he's in the zone!
And thanks for the straight forward thread title. I feel like some of your other threads about your kids accomplishments have gotten lost in the shuffle due to excessive humility. Gotta get your brag on sometimes! :D
johntp-that's a Taco embedding shortcoming. Scroll over the video and click the "YouTube" icon that pops up near the bottom right of the video screen and it will open a new window with the video directly in Youtube and you can view it full screen there.

Drew is such a good climber.
Part of the charm of his videos is the DIY style-
Ground angle, funny music, lack of editing, Mom interviews...
To the casual observer, those factors can belie the fact that world class, elite level climbing is going down.
Great job!
That linkup looks super involved. All the "blah blah blah", that overwatch mentions, explains that- combining the cruxes of routes that used to be some of the hardest in the country.
And if the grade holds, it will be standard setting for Smith, and the first big jump in ages.
Props!

I watched 'The Assassin' Video, when it 1st posted, then twice more and again just now.
The essential thing that strikes me is the ease that shows mastery. Drew's Prowess,
Understated humility is as endearing, as the quality of the dominating send.
Between 5:38 - 6:58 when he throws his hat, and then again as he shakes-out, @8:38,
&13:45, all spots that register W0Ws
I love it and played around with it. This is in no way a criticism, I have
not seen a better video.
if you turn the sound way up, you hear cameras popping,
turn the volume off, this video still holds up as near perfect - low edit, smooth!!
change to a harder choice of dramatic music, not the new age? Stuff, I liked it fine, but
it is not driving enough for me.
there are some classical music lovers, as well as electro funk & heavy metal threads
That gave me some interesting results, the climbing is so smooth that even Grateful Dead tunes worked.

Thank you all for the very gracious comments...
I have been so fortunate to watch his progression over the years. He's becoming his own man now. I don't get to spend much time with him nowadays... Sigh, I guess it's life, right?

It was a pleasure watching this...it's all so endearingly "grass-rootsy."
Drew doesn't mess about going for his holds and his feet--so solid.
"Where does he go from here?"

I've had the privilege of watching (from afar) Drew develop into a phenomenal climber and an even finer young man. Knowing his family, the latter is no surprise, his goofball dad notwithstanding. But his climbing skills are in another league and a delight to watch.
Unless you've spent years working the impossibly hard moves of Repeat Offender, Villain, and White Wedding, it is difficult to appreciate the seemingly ease with which Drew floats those nails hard cruxes in this video of his linkup Assassin. Ironically, while I am unqualified to fully appreciate this video, I can appreciate his plastic skills. I've unwittingly, while kicking and screaming every step of the way, become a Youth Climbing Competition 5.14c spectator. At these competitions, you spend hours watching some crazy talented kids trying to unlock the same insanely hard boulder problems or routes.
After a morning of spectating and marveling at just how strong and talented these kids are, you get a true sense of just how hard and tricky each move is. It's like the world's most productive work session without the pump. And then Drew walks out, brilliantly reads the route, and dispatches the routes with a confidence and skill earned only by years of hard work. It's quite impressive and fun to watch. While Drew is crazy strong, it is his flawless footwork that has always awed me. It's like he's climbing with an extra set of hands.
Great job Drew! You too Rudy.

Lucky for Drew that the DNA that encodes goofiness resides on the Y chromosome and is recessive...
That boy would be doomed otherwise!

Looks like 5.8 to me. Not impressed. What's more impressive than watching a kid like that make .14d look 5.8 is watching a guy like me make 5.8 look like .11c. Now that takes real skill.
Actually, nice work dad. Looks like yer kid is doin alright. Congrats.

Love this whole gang, Rudy has put so many miles from The eastside to Smith Rock...since, like 1982 or something.
Fully dedicated!
Drew is amazing - but so is Driver/Amazing Climber Dad and Driver/Climber Mom (who did the video, right? Solid work!)...
PNW REPRESENT!

Impressive climbing, but it did not look like a clean ascent. Unless my eyes deceive me, he hung three times on a biner, and above that his belayer would tighten the rope after he clipped into each (?) biner. So, exxentially aid a few times. Sorry.

Excellent vid, and I liked the context at the beginning. It gave me an idea of what Drew was climbing.
I think it's fair to say that his strength-to-weight ratio eclipses mine.
