I don't have any Capital One accounts

Have you ever? If not then either it's a mistake for which they will
want it back or it's a scam. I would call them.

ps
What's that saying about something being too good to be true? ;-)

Never had an account with them and shred their applications as soon As I receive them; I hate those bastards. I seem to get a card application every few days.

No contact data although I could probably get it off the net. Personally I would not want to touch them with a 20' cheater stick.

Well, I've had their cards for years without a problem. I like being able
to use my miles on any airline at any time. YMMV
Their phone people are always quite decent.

I wouldn't cash it and I bet yer bank won't.

I've seen a few scams that start with a "surprise" check...

Reilly, I have enough credit cards and don't need another. The reason I hate them is that after years of getting their card applications and shredding them they still have not figured out I'm not interested.

edit: fear- thanks for that link.

2nd edit: I wonder if by cashing the check it would be an assumption of agreement and result in them sending me pre-approved card(s), which I do not want.

Unless there is some explanation for the check, I would not negotiate it. It may be a trick for someone trying to find the location of the account into which you attempt to deposit the "check."

I have received relatively modest checks over the years as parts of "nuisance" settlements of class actions, but never from anyone with whom I never did business, and never without a letter of explanation and, on occasion, a restrictive endorsement (e.g. "By negotiating this check, payee waives all claims related to [fill in the blank]."

I suppose I have one other possibility to suggest: Does anyone else owe you $127.00? If so, it may be their check drawn on Capital One Bank.

Keep us posted, please.

John-

Good question as far as if someone owes me money. Not to my knowledge. I have made a number of donations/contributions to folks on this forum and others. Seems there should be an explanation though if someone is returning the favor.

Fraudulent application for card in your name that got intercepted, but the check didn't (the incentive for signing up and charging a bunch).

Seen your credit report lately?
