Yes, a long-time denizen of this nuthouse is having a special birthday. For those of us on the west coast, his birthday will be tomorrow, May 29th. But Patrick is on Irish time, and so for him the magic date has already arrived.
Happy 60th birthday to our leprechaun friend, Patrick!! Let's hope that it is a good day for him.
The historians here of course already know that May 29th is a special day. On that day in 1453, Constantinople finally fell to the Turks. Then, exactly 500 years later, the tall guy and the shorter guy climbed that big mountain in Asia. It was Tenzing's birthday, more or less - no one kept very good records in the Kharta Valley in 1914. And, not to politicize the thread, it is also the birthday of John F. Kennedy.
As they say in Erse "Éirinn go Brách". Roughly translated, this apparently means "I drank too much green beer and am going to be sick." The Norse, who brought urban civilization to Ireland, have a lot to answer for.

Thank you all. Went bouldering, walked the dog on the beach, swam in the Celtic Sea.
Should have concentrated on preparing my presentation for UCD postgrad course, which I was the first to go Tuesday. I am focussing on dementia (Alzheimer's etc).
My late mother passed away from Alzheimer's in California (2007), Jennie's mother (2005) in Dublin, and of course Jen is in a nursing home (south of New Ross, Co Wexford, Kennedy country) at the tender age of 65 with Korsakoff's.
Dementia sucks.
As for May 29, I surpassed JFK's age, now to surpass another May 29'er, Bob Hope (100).

Patrick, that sounds like a great plan to transform your past suffering and knowledge into something positive. Not to mention grad school will definitely keep you busy.
Are you going to do this online or returning to the U.S. ?
