Hoping to head up there for some camping and climbing Thursday through Monday this weekend. Is the road open?

Also, has anybody here on the Taco been down the approach to A Little Nukey this season? Choked with snow? Dry as a bone? Inquiring minds want to know.

Stoked!

I found that it's best to avoid Courtright intill after labor day.... unless you love Mosquitoes and hungry MeatBees....

The wife and I were also hoping to spend Memorial day weekend there. I called the forest service a few days ago, and they were noncommittal about wether the road would be open for the weekend or not.

F.Y.I. The link says Beasore rd is open, but there were giant snow drifts on the road just past Central Camp when I went up there yesterday.
Central camp is clear however, all the way into High Eagle.

The road to the boat launch is going to be plowed on May 27th. Sounds like there is a huge amount of snow up there still. Dinkey Lakes has 4 feet still

I know Scott (micronut) knows this, but for those not living near the Big Raisin, the central Sierra had snow flurries at various places above 6,000-7,000 foot elevation, and even had a bit of snow at Shaver Lake yesterday. The forecast remains somewhat unsettled for the next several days.

Maybe the weather goes in 45-year cycles, because this year reminds me of 1971. That year it was normal until late April. We started up the Chouinard-Pratt on Middle Cathedral in sunshine and warmth, and retreated in a snowstorm later the same day. The weather remained unsettled in the Valley for several weeks thereafter. We went up to do the regular route on the NW Face of Half Dome on Memorial Day weekend that year, and were turned back by a snowstorm (and a voracious bear). Several climbers died in a blizzard on Mr. Ritter that same weekend.

I hope this year's weather is kinder to climbers.

Thanks for the info Nanobody and JEleazarian. I was planning on heading a bit above Dinkey Creek, roughly 7000', but with the little guy along I think I may be looking for another new destination.

Wishon though is dry and open for business. Fun times on the Africa wall last weekend.

A recent find...Africa Wall. Looked real hard for those Scott Loomis fingerprints but didn't find any. Man, this place is just endless...gotta love it!
