In the Emeralds near Lake Tahoe. Recently 2 hangers were found missing and they weren't easy to get to. In both cases they were at least 3 bolts from the ground. The studs are solid and the rock they were placed in is solid.

Maybe they were cracked, or smashed by rockfall, or being levered over an edge, or were death traps like those old Leepers or the SMCs that routinely fell apart, and the good-intentioned remover hasn't gotten back to replace the mank?
Otherwise what do you have? Gear thief seems far fetched, and anti bolt zealot types would probably chop the whole line, or at least the studs where they removed hangers.
A mystery, now where's Sherlock.

That's not good. Almost like someone is trying to hurt somebody.
Note to self. Bring small nut to cinch down on the bolt the next time I go up there. I would freak out if I headed up a climb and came across that situation.
