I keep getting fake profiles on facebook trying to friend request me.

All the profiles are set up to look like these people are climbers,

I've noticed that friends have fallen for it and accepted the requests.

Third world FB problems.

Pretty elaborate invites and pages too. Some even go so far as to do big walls in Yosemite and free climb runout pitches, just so they can make a better fake bookface!

Suggestion: quit Facebook.

I did several years ago and have never regretted it.

I heard the other day that only 15% of teens use it so it must be toast. If that is so then it is
pretty funny that The Economist put Zuckerberg on the cover recently dressed as a Roman
emperor.

I got a request from the same friend, as did many others. I declined...some friends you can only take so much of (I know you're reading this and you know I say this in jest>)>

FakeBook.

When Mark Zuckerberg was at Harvard, he conned fellow students into sending him their personal information to him. There is a notorious email message he sent to a friend, wherein he bragged about being astounded that that other students would trust him and send their personal information.

FaceBook is an absurd and sordid ploy to gain access to personal information for nefarious purposes. The hazard is there, whether it is FaceBook, or someone pretending to be FaceBook.

I can't understand why anybody would willingly upload personal information to a website that has repeatedly violated the privacy of its users.

Facebook appeals to a generation of zombies.

Because of privacy concerns I never used FB and refused all potential friends. It is still an utter pain.
When I search on anything FB has priority and I have to click on refusing permission for access to my
computer before I can continue. Why did these sites get first priority? Just make refusing permission
the default. To fix this I will have to upgrade my browser.

Agree with Jebus

My FB life is just swimmin'

And I enjoy following it there.

Facebook, like every other internet amusement, seems largely what you make of it.

When you get one of those FB friend requests that seem fishy, click on the About tab on their FB site. If there is totally no information about who there are or what they do (and if there are only 2 pics), you can be pretty certain the FB friend request is phony. Click delete and save yourself trouble later on.

Maybe they're getting better at detecting it. I just got a friend notification which was obviously going to be another one. This was from Koppmeier Lars (they're always weird foreign names) with a mt. biking photo as profile pic. By the time I clicked on it, which was right away cause I was already on FB, the profile had been deleted.

What do you do if you get Spam? Make Spam musubi! Only 5 ingredients (IF you consider Spam only one ingredient); 1 can Spam, 3 cups uncooked sushi rice, rice wine viniger, Soy sauce, Sugar, and Nori sheets.
