Robert lived his life on his own terms. We worked together on a couple of projects. We all will very much miss him.

Robert was a good person and a integral part of the fabric of the Joshua Tree climbing community. I am sad that he is no longer with us, but take comfort that he lived, as JStan said, life on his own terms and his passing was not prolonged. My thoughts are with Hilde and all of Robert's friends and family.

F*#k.

I don't know what to say right now. This really sucks.

Damnit!

EDIT: God bless you, Robert. I wish I could say this in person.

Take care, brother. You were one of a kind.

My best to all Roberts friends and family who are hurting. The pain for RLF is both fortunately and sadly, now over. I mean no disrespect. I watched the wonderful woman across the street take many excruciating months of pain before she passed from a brain tumor that spread throughout her body. Cancer sucks. Sometimes in extremely cruel ways too.

I loved what GDavis said...

Robert was such a good dude. SUCH a good dude. Fuvking class through and through. Dirtbag to the end and made of gold. There just isn't anyone like him, anywhere. Ever.

That's him.

I am going to miss you so much, man. You didn't know me and my wife from Adam when we met, but you promptly offered us a place to camp any time we were in the area. We took you up on that offer, many times, and I am so glad that I got to spend time with you and climb with you. I will never forget you dancing around the camping area like a 10 year old, grinning and pointing out all the lines we JUST HAD to try. Ha! Your enthusiasm, your zest for life, and your tales are something that I will always remember fondly.

At one point, Robert and I talked about going to the Valley and climbing, and I am sorry that I didn't try a little harder to make that happen - being on a wall with him would have been an absolute blast.
I am SO glad that I decided to go down last month and visit with him....he was in pain and tired as hell, but we still talked for hours. And his eyes still lit up when he was telling climbing tales, like they always did.

Sh#t, I got the news on this while the wife and I were over on the North Rim and kind of out of Internet range. Started typing this and I guess it's hitting me a bit now. I am REALLY going to miss Robert, but I am sure happy that I got to spend time with him.

Hilde, you and Robert's family have my deepest sympathies. The world is going to be a smaller place with Robert gone.

Thank you for the times, the climbs, and for teaching me about the "rope that's too long" - I will cherish the one you gave me even more now.

I like to think maybe you're sitting up there somewhere with Bachar and Harding, having beers around a campfire or just climbing outrageous sh#t in the afterlife. You touched so many lives in your time here, and your memory will live on forever. RIP my friend.

RIP Robert and condolences to all. I first met Robert back in the 90's. Great guy, big laugh, and super-positive. It seemed he was ALWAYS lending a hand to someone in need. Last time I saw him was at Nomads a few years back.

He was one of the good ones full of good vibes and happiness. I miss you Robert. See you on the other side.

Im so sorry to hear this. I got to work side by side with Robert for several years. We guided together in JT. I remember him saying one day " I don't need this sh#t. I used to put satellites into space, and now I'm baby sitting f*#king boy scouts."

Robert was awesome , always there to help out a friend, or a skid. We will miss him.
