April is a bad bet for highway 120 to be open to the meadows, above it was stated 50/50 but watch the snowpack..
The Park Service does have IR and scans parking areas, as well as other areas, only sleeping out of line of sight from a road will do the trick, inside, or immediately outside the Park. Some have parked at trailhead parking lots, then walked a few hundred meters to sleep.
It is not correct that only Camp 4 is open in April. Upper Pines, lower Pines, North Pines, Wawona, and Hodgdon Meadow will all be open. Searching campgrounds for a one or two night stay sometimes shows availability, where a week long stay inquiry does not.
If you must climb Yosemite, understood, but if you hope for a wilderness experience with few people, yes, the Black Canyon, or if you are comfortably leading 5.11, visit the Needles.

FWIW...The "upgraded" Recreation.gov site, where one makes advance campground reservations, is much trickier to navigate than the old one. It was easier to see first available sites prior to this.
