It's with the great sadness I'm sharing the news that Scott Cosgrove passed away suddenly sometime yesterday.
Apparently Scott was overdue and found collapsed on a hiking trail not far from where he's been living during his amazing recovery from horrendous injuries sustained in a fall at work over a year ago.
I have no other details to offer on the circumstances of his passing.

I'm proud to say Scott was my friend and we shared many adventures together in Joshua Tree, The Valley at home in Squamish and on the job rigging for motion pictures.

I know we'll all learn more soon enough.

Condolences to Scott's family and all who had the privilege of being this amazing human being's friend.

Sickens me. Just a few days ago he posted a picture on FB of his little dog hiking partner. He sounded so upbeat.

Oh, my word...that is truly tragic.

You had so many friends here at ST, Scott, all over the climbing world, and beyond. You will continue to be a role model to all- thank you for your contributions, and rest easy.

Seems so shocking. So sorry for those who knew and loved him. I met him just once, at the old Crossroads Cafe.

"We are a forgotten and dying breed.
Like Bachar always said.
"Last of the Mohicans."
... I will not apologize for my climbs and believe the ends do not justify the means.
I'm proud of what we did even if no one else is."

Wow, all the hard climbs, tough rehab, then pass away on a hike. But that's the randomness of the real world. Could be worse.
We all will die someday; no way to escape.
Here's a great article he wrote in 1998, on freeing all but 15' of The Shaft (Muir Wall var.).
It was nearly the 3rd big all free route on El Cap, and way ahead of its time.

I am, beyond sad and stunned,
I had held out hope that I would, some day, at the Gordo Ranch
Get A Nuggy from a hero of Mine and all of ours.
For days , many years ago, Scott and I shared floor space at Todds.
he was there intermittently, when he was I would badger
him to at least trail a rope for me . I gave up when he soloed the right ski track in red shorts, a tee shirt andChalk bag
some Kinda' wind sustained his soloing ,
To all of the many close friends ,
I am so sad for you ....... what a man he had grown Into!
I have a sister In Holyweird, who is , Im sure also devastated.
There is an intense wind around these part to Night but I have a roman Candle
and a bucket of tears all set to GO
Peace be with us as scott moves on,
We can only hope that Werner is right
and that in the next few years some crusher In diapers
will arise and the light in her/ his eyes will hold,
the magic that the years in Jtree bestowed on him

Have a good ride scotty
see you again too if no where else then in my dreams
