Yet another reason from EBay on why you should never throw any climbing-related item away. A worn & stained 1976 Chouinard/ Great Pacific Ironworks receipt just sold for $43.00 plus $3.50 shipping.

I saw that thing!
and try as I might,
and the Need is great,
My wife won't let me part with a thing.
She knows I would regret getting rid of anything that I have left of my stuff.
I once had 15 bins in storage In Kingston NY, Only 6 made it, in the move.
Backpacks, Helmets, Boots ,shoes, harnesses, ropes take up a lot of space.
But also, I kept everything.
I had multiples of everything . Older vintage British gear, Items and in colors never available here in the States.
'Beginner' racks, stacks of cheap 'biners and lots of Ch. Ovals and an equal number of D's
and things Like my blue Robbins boots that I had resoled with C4... F.R.O.G Gear Wave products gear
Business receipts log books, the heaviest stuff....not all of it of value, maybe most of it just obsolete...
Pins,& hammers, mainly army surplus but some others
Most painful to have lost were things( some real Junk) things from the founders of the M preserve..
So while I have a Dolt piece or three all my forest and GPI stuff, Karrimor Packs, Sturdy ropes from Germany, and Swiss made items, Treasures, just were not on the Truck.
I keep a look out but the majority of the stuff seems to have been scraped in order to save on the move, not stolen for future sale .
They are trying to scam the lucrative collectable climbing receipt market? NOW THAT WAS FUNNY
It may have given you away though..

Lately I have been shedding a lot of gear. Not selling, but giving it away or donating to climber's fund raising events.
Do I miss this stuff and what I stupidly threw away in the course of my divorce? Short answer is yes, but it just seems lame to have a bunch of stuff sitting around that I have not used in years. There is sentimental value, but I've never been one to live too much in the past. I miss my Forrest ice tools, JRat harness, EBs and original Fires though.
In the end it is just gear and sometimes I feel the need to purge; I somewhat miss the days when I could fit everything I owned in my 77 Subaru wagon.

Man have I missed the boat! GPIW was already a second generation trade name. What would any of my memorabilia relating to Chouinard Equipment for Alpinists be worth -- if I still had any of it?

Man have I missed the boat! GPIW was already a second generation trade name. What would any of my memorabilia relating to Chouinard Equipment for Alpinists be worth -- if I still had any of it?
I hear ya John. What I threw out in the course of my divorce may have funded a trip to Europe.

Same here. Funny how an ugly divorce can make a person temporarily insane. In the 8 years since The Great Purge, I have slowly come to comprehend the dollar value of the sh#t I tossed.

In the early days of Ebay I sold all my 80s Chouinard catalogs for a few bucks a piece thinking it was just a passing fad and the buyers were idiots. Damn!! those are fetching 20-40 bucks each now. Got the rest of my old gear stashed away now.

In 1970 or '71, I visited the "factory" in Ventura, when Chouinard and Frost were watching someone I couldn't recognize using the mechanized hammer (I think it was called something like the "Little Giant," but time and decreptitude have faded my memory) to make Lost Arrows. They had a barrel of "seconds" of carabiners for about half price. It was a worthwhile visit.
