Heard that the bolts have been removed?

From Face Book so cal climbers website..

Hey all, went out to Point Dume on Sunday for some TR action, and all bolts have been chopped and all access trails to the top have been blocked. There is now a solitary boulder up top for protection, and if you've been there before, you know this little boulder needs some serious backing up (which used to be done with bolts).

Finally cleaned that sh#t off the wall.. Never really liked climbing on that thing anyway..

edit:

i heard the news 2 days ago been at work also have not climbed PT DUME in years would rather go to PT MUGU.. today 1-20 had day OFF took some pic's of the disgust.. surf here year round ALWAYS tell people all about Rock Climbing at PT DUME.. BAD CHOICE RANGERS..

The state parks being shut down left and right ...
the man probably saw it as a potential liability issue.

i'll go out there someday just before I surf Westwards plant some bolts in.. I wish the rangers would consider the revenue climbing and hiking provides.. Park service owns tooooo much land.

Wish I could help. I liked surfing Westward. Had a super up close experience with a humpback there. Like too close for comfort. Should be good this year with the rain and potential sandbar development.

Don't forget to take the prophylactic antibiotics. Ha.

Yeah I never really understood the allure of climbing slimy rock on the beach with surf in such close proximity.

The humpbacks are indeed curious. As are the Dolphins at county line. I never much cared for the Zuma surf when Oxnard was so close. Issue a few beat downs and you are in for life.

Nooooooooooo! Not Point Dume!

You maniacs!
You blew it up!
God damn you!
God damn you all to hell!

Was it the local residents? The folks near the Malibu pier, at Carbon Beach, have been illegally blocking access to "their" beach for years. Same with some of the other beaches in that area.

And the most fun! We used to make a loop around the buoy every full moon. Especially fun when the bio bloom was out.

Some large sharks out there for sure. Watch your ass.

Well, it's a shame if the TR anchors got removed. You jaded locals that are giving the "good riddance" can stick to your 5.12 proj. For us mortals, it is an excellent cliff for TR soloing and a pleasant place to hang out on nice days. Buddy lives right above and we've had a lot of nice relaxing days climbing and whale/dolphin watching at the same time.

The lead bolts were long overdue for removal since they were in bad shape and the powers-that-be wouldn't allow replacement. A certain dumb ass went in there a few years ago to try to re-bolt and got caught. Mangled a bunch of lead bolts and left a mess that just pissed everyone off and made it even more dangerous.

Tried to block the access trail.??. LOL- good luck keeping regular hikers off that cliff. I doubt that will work.

LOL BTW- 3000 posts about how awesome Pt.Mugo and Stoney are and a snub for Pt. Dume... ??? it is the lack of graffiti, grime and trash that makes it so un-appealing?

justthemaid,

I'm no longer a local but it just seemed contrived to go to the beach to climb a chosspile like that.

For the record, I found Pt. Mugu and Stoney Point equally contrived and never cared to climb their either.

:D

EDIT: Although I did some anchor testing at Pt. Mugo once. Can't remember but I got some new pro and wanted to fiddle. Plus its fun to watch people kill it at Supertubes.

Remember about 20 years ago when an experienced couple of sea kayakers set off from
there to go to Ventura (or vice versa)? Found their kayak a few days later well munched.

Pyro - the park service owns to much land?

If that were private property you nor anyone would have ever climbed on it.
