Anybody got some info on any climbs in Kauai? Guess there are some Lava cliffs to boulder, so I will bring the shoes. Any good deep water solos???

Hike the Nepali coast trail, stay overnight, caves right on the beach at the end of the trail. Bouldering, ok... Location, incredible.

Is the Na Pali Coast trail accessible now? It was destroyed by hurricane some time ago. I guess it must be, I seem to remember seeing a photo of the beach at the end. The name escapes me at present, duh. Kinda late here. Kalalau is it? All those damn Hawai'ian words sound the same - bloody good thing there are so few letters in their alphabet.

Climbing in Hawai'i for the most part sucks, the rock is just too crumbly. I don't remember much of anything that's fun on Kaua'i. Certainly no deep water soloing that I know of. A preposition is a bad thing to end a sentence with.

I keep saying it, the good rock is on the North shore of Molokai. You need a helicopter or boat to get there though.

This is "lithified" sandstone on the beach on the South side of Kauai (Po'ipu). Hike East from the Hyatt.

Did some deep water soloing at the end of the beach at Kalalau and beyond.
Fun, but Hawaii does suck for climbing.

Werner, I have boat access, I will mail you a chart to tell me where. I am coming to the Valley next spring if not sooner so I'll ask you for info then.
From my experience on Kauai is very little. Only been there about six times. Just have fun with the beach bouldering. I find kevlar gloves helpful with some of the sharp lava.
The hiking is great if you have time do it. Feel free to call me if your on Oahu long enough for a beer.

The best rock I found on Kauai was at the bottom of the Kukui trail in the Waimea Canyon. Bomber basalt band about 30 feet tall that you can traverse for a while ( lot's of spider webs though). If you try to deep water solo on the shoth shore you are guaranteed to take a drink as that rock is more sand than stone. But there are some limestone-like outcroppings West of the Hyatt a ways, i second the bring gloves comment, and add old shoes as the rock will scallop your climbing shoes.
I wouldn't bother bringing climbing gear, maybe just some shoes. The hiking on the Napali is amazing, I second the overnight to Kalalao Valley. That is probably the best part of Kauai.

Werner is right, the north shore of Molokai has 30 miles of cliffs & sea stacks. Just spent three weeks at molokai ranch windsurfing & checked out the cliffs.Boat will be the only access, & then you have the wave back wash from the cliffs(vomit fits). Oahu has some good stuff.rg

Skip the bouldering in Kauai - the rock is brittle and full of crabs. Instead, head up to Koke'e State Park and hike the Awa'awapuhi Trail. Besides the amazing views of Waimea Canyon on the drive up, Koke'e State Park presents a different view island at altitude. The Awa'awapuhi Trail, in particular, approaches the Na Pali coast from above and ends on a knife edge ridge that drops a few thousand feet to the valleys and ocean below.
If you need a bouldering fix, Hideaways on the North Shore has some easy bouldering. Lose the shoes and do circiuts on the wall, wactch out for crabs in the cracks. Also, Hanakapai'ai beach has some brittle cliffs with sandy landings.

Check out Kipu Falls for some fun but limited deepwater bouldering. Kalalau for location, but sketchy basalt will keep you close to the ground.

Are there any updates since 2007? We are heading there in a couple of weeks and would love to do some easy bouldering. Will be there with kids, so somewhere with easy/quick access is preferable...

Go to the Big Island, southern tip Green Sand Beach, excellent long traverses. Work on your calluses though. A'a!
I didn't properly explore it, but there might be some good stuff where the lava flows come down from the higher country to the coastal flatlands in the much less visited part of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Maybe not steep enough, but worth verifying.
Plenty of isolated steep canyons in the jungles on the slopes of Mauna Kea, around 3000 - 6000 elevation. Not big stuff, but plenty adventurous and scary and beautiful. It's mostly not legal to get back in there though unless you're affiliated with some government research or private ranchers.
Kohala area looks like way big, remote, chossy near vertical vegetated adventure.

I have lived on the Big Island for 24 years and the only real climbing on this island would be down at south point, as people have mentioned before.
I did do some bouldering above water,, low water soloing, at the ponds above rainbow falls. Only safe at low water.
Most any thing that is solid enough to climb looks like you could slice off your fingers on the holds. Most of the rest is old rubble.
There might be some stuff if you spent a lot of time exploring the gullies along the Hamakua coast. Just be sure to bring tons of mosquito reppelent. There are gullies on the dry side too. Along the highway between Kawaihae and Hawi. Just be careful of the thorns on the keawe trees. No walk in the rubber slippahs... you get one puka in da foot.
For Kauai I would second going up to Kokee and hike to the Ko'o'lau look out.
