How unstable are you? Number of sprains and grade of sprains? How much functional limitations do you have? Pain level? Age?
All big factors in the decision, but the Colville procedure seems to be a good option of the procedures being done....if your willing to give up some ROM! Seems like less morbidity, quicker to weight bearing status and fairly quick PT follow up. Ankles are a very complex joint, many articulations and HARD to come back from injury due to it's many joints involved. Do yer research, get another UNBIASED opinion and make yer decision.
Good luck, heal up get back to the climbing!
Peace

unstable on uneven terraine - not a good combo for the remote alaska geology work I enjoy. I had an initial surgery which in theory should've done the job, but the tendon is worn out and no longer has its elasticity - so time to replace I've been told.
have you had the surgery? did you lose a significant amount of ROM? does it hinder you or hold you back from any of the activities you did pre-injury?

Certified Athletic Trainer to be correct, more sports med oriented but 26 years in out patient physical therapy setting and skill base is debatable as to how good/bad I am! Fortunately no surgery but chronic instability in L ankle......workable for me.
Peace
