Yes, we do explain how to tie a figure of eight. When we started climbing we didn't even know what it was and so does probably the majority of beginners. We don't show completely how to do the knot because we want to avoid people copying it and making mistakes (although it's plenty of tutorials on Youtube).

Holly sh#t, that's the best instruction ever! You guys are doing an instructional videos for complete beginners who don't know how to tie a 'figure of eight,' but don't show completely how to do it because you don't want people to copy it and make a mistake?! LOL so what is the point in the first place? Not showing it completely basically increases the chance of a f*#k up. May not make much sense, but I say get a GoPro and do a good job with it! A comprehensive figure of eight 3D video would be even better. Good luck!

sorry,
my soul's gone
exclusively utility.

the dream is mechanical;
i march out my existence
via habitual steps
motivated only by
obligation,
all with hopeless discipline.

i seek no smile.
no love.
no joy.

i seek only the
distant death that
patiently awaits
my arrival.

though i know that i
must earn entry into
hell; i do not intend
to hasten life's pace,
i'll ride it out
not proudly but thoroughly.

duties be done.
bills get paid.
dining at the table
on plant-matter.
wife gets pleased.
children, educated.

so your project and i
do not get along;
it's not my necessity,
so i've no use for it
or for you whom
decorate this aweful
journey with artful
acts of courage and
beauty.

just pass on by.
and please don't notice
my tears.

To Valentina, nice to meet you and your two friends Anna and Tamsin too! I have a suggestion

Yikes some one sent me the link but I could not look at it till just now
after 10:00oclock , from the desk-top...
There IS a nasty site but now thats going way to far, sorry Boobs rule...
they use climbing equipment and never talk down to their audience .
They expect the viewers to understand the basics already and use very clear videos to depict
The proper use and how to get the most enjoyment out of the out of doors.
I think you on to something judging from their success you will surely do just as well if you do what they do.

How do the kids say it NSFW?

It appears that the misogynistic old farts of ST outlasted the exuberant youthful Vertical Souls. The via ferrata video was nice though

"Old fart" is a pejorative that gets thrown around with abandon. Age is attained by living right, genetics and luck. If an older person is misogynistic, it's usually something he carried with him from youth. Remember the misogynistic banter endemic after the first beer at college sausage fests?
I didn't see many "old farts" on news footage from Charlottesville.

Many more from your age group and younger Jeremy. I have lived thru the civil rights and women's liberation movements and would have imagined, if asked a generation ago, that the youth of today would be much further along than the evidence shows.

Jim, the ranks of the far right are filled with young people, because the young (mostly males) act impulsively. Most of them will abandon that nonsense, usually when they have kids. The tide is turning, slowly, it takes more than a generation.

Boston might not be the best yard stick, as it is a progressive town, but the counter protesters outnumbered the alt righters 400 to 1.

Old fart is not necessarily a pejorative term. Does not bother me, it motivates me to train harder, (cuz I have to), to keep up with the young punks.

One lesson I should have learned Jeremy is to never be surprised. Human nature hasn't changed substantially since the beginning of civilization. I was in my early twenties during the heyday of the 60's when make love not war became a slogan. I read a lot of history at the time and, based on that, I was pretty sure that we weren't witnessing the "new generation" that was so much a part of the news.
Then came the 80's when business courses were flooded and and personal wealth became the watchword.
This past decade we have witnessed two things, one good, the other horrific, that I would never have imagined....the election of our first black president followed by the insanity of Trump.

Edit: Yeah Jon, I should be proud of the old fart label as long as I can stay in the same ballpark.

Some of the comments thrown at these young, well-intentioned souls reminds me of something that the Zen Master Suzuki said at the beginning of his book:

"In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, in the expert's there are few."

So what ever happened to Norwegian? Above is his last post here ever, back in 2015. Anyone know?

Isn't he from Strawberry, CA up in the mountains there above Murphys or some such place?
