We love you, Canada. And thanks.

Thank you, Canada.

Note: The unit's name is First Special SERVICE Force, not services. They were not shipboard barbers, like in the Navy, who calls them Special Services Men.

My grandpa was in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy. Those guys were pretty badass.

They've been mentioned, yes, a great deal, in fact.

These killers have had no mention in these ST pages that I can locate.

And we Americans are so full of ourselves that we talk about ourselves and our great contribution to the war effort and say nothing about the allies.

But the fact is that Canada, with its much smaller population, probably sacrificed as much if not more in that effort to defeat Jerry, at least in terms of lives.

I have an uncle, Chuck (RIP), my dad's older brother, who served in Italy and waited it out at Anzio in a cave for several months. He was regular army, though.

God bless 'em all.

My father in law Kiichi was in I company, 442nd, the most decorated unit of WW2. Kiichi had an amazing climbing story of the 442nd soldiers in the Dolomites climbing rock in pitch black night to attack the well entrenched Germans in the rock caves above. Made everyone I know and even folks like Bachar and Reardon seem like a bunch of weak-assed pussies doing meaningless stuff so I won't repeat it here. Needless to say, all those guys, and most of them probably weighed @ 110 lbs soaking wet, were serious bad-asses. Peace is such an elusive thing, but so appreciated once you consider the alternatives.

Good stuff. You know our own Mucci's uncle was a major Spec Op hero in the Big One?
There was a thread a few years ago. I've the book at home but I can't remember the title.
