At a recent ST HH, I spoke with Steve Grossman about his next project: interviewing Allen Steck. I had written a piece on Allen for Rock & Ice in 1991. I re-read it and it is relevant and a testament to a great climbing career as well as a life well-lived. So here it is. Steve is probably interviewing Allen right now.

What is going on with this thread? I've posted to it twice, and each time it's been wiped out. Looks like Rick A tried to post as well, but got nuked.
What I wanted to say was that, for me, Allen was, is, and always will be, The Man.

Thanks, Mike. And thanks Steelmnkey for the "recent" photos.
I talked to Allen this weekend and he is as sharp as ever. We should all be so with it when we are 89 years young. He's working on getting his memoir published, great news that he wrote it. He also mentioned the piece he wrote on Salathe which I will bump.

Allen is total class.....first met him in the Siguniang region of China in 1981. Nearly 90 and still getting it done!

Steck - an understated tiger and a gentleman. Total respect here.
Hummingbird Ridge was way ahead of its time. That was an awesome accomplishment.
