hey there say... hoping that this is still in the thrift store, tomorrow, will let you know...

but--i should have bought it today, but it was ten bucks... and i tried to 'control' my self, :))

it is an old WHITE brand sewing machine.. EXACTLY like my mom's was, but with the base, gone... also,
sadly it IS no cords ... only the motor...

mine was lost, somehow, through the divorce-move and may have been trashed...

THIS is the closet that comes to it... it looked similar to this, but this is kenmore...

could not find any WHITE in any search...

perhaps it can't be fixed... i will just deal with that...

but--DOES, please, anyone have a clue if IT CAN BE????
fixed, ... the wheel does move and etc, goes up and down, but no electic stuff...

thank for any info... can't seem to find any, fixing these...

thanks guys, will check in again, soon...

Hey Neebee , Excellent effort on the self control. I dont know about sewing machines in particular. I do carpentry and end up repairing alot of electric tools. Check the motor, look for burns or discoloration and or dirt. Burned electric stuff will stink for a long time, and dirt is bad for electric motors. It that seems Ok and you buy it clean the motor & works, you can use compressed air to get dust out. Cords are usually made to be replaced and are generally pretty easy to fix. I usually use an extention cord, ones that get beat and cut one end off. Then you can have a molded plug on the cord, use at least 14 gauge wire in the cord, 12 is better.
Good luck with that.

Yer not just missing the cord, you are also probably missing the foot switch /speed control.

You may be able to come up with a more modern replacement for that.

hey there say, ... wow, EKAT! wow...

and say, folks, i did it... I WENT BACK and it was still there...
went just as they opened...

it was very special... was like getting back a piece of my childhood and mommy memories... will call her tonight and let her know...

the one thing, that i really did have a regret about, was that this got ruined/lost when i got divorced...

my mom taught me to sew on it...

THIS KIND, i mean...

well, here it is... and it looked exactly like mine did...
perhaps has TWO screws on the top, that mine was missing?
wow!! and it IS VERY HEAVY, as i knew it was...

this one is missing the bobin cover...
i SHOW the damaged/broken cord here...

and yep, it DOES the floor-deal and electric plug section, too...

but wow, the MOTOR is one it... don't know how to tell if it was
ever OVERSMOKED, etc...

is missing the BOX.. wow, and i remember mine, that got left here, after i moved it from divorce, etc... well--haha, it WAS MISSING the box, too...
it had fallen apart... :(

shook around, in too many moves, :(

THANK YOU ALL for all the links... so many names, thanks guys!
and gals, will thank all the names, later, i got up too early and kept on going all day, so i got to 'recharge the ol' brain and cells' or, i will
fall asleep later and get no work done...

wow, this is, well, for me, a miracle find... i finally DID find TWO pics on line... but i had to turn the search to 1940's sewing machine...
i tried 1950's, but they only showed singer and kenmore...

wow, i am SO VERY GLAD I DID THIS... if i had not had a surprise 'my friend needs me' on an early sunday, just yesterday, we'd NOT have gone to the goodwill and may not have ever found this!! (we nearly NEVER go to this one store--usually they cost more, see... )... we hit the other cheaper ones for shopping, :)

this was my special day... and hers, too... she found a neat doll for her collection, :)

wow, will go rest, and then see all the links...
sure hope, you never know, it may work someday...

also, though, as i said in pic:
i can roll the wheel by hand, :))
and it sews... but the bobbin is messing up, :(
got to adjust all this, hopefully...

hey there say, jon... wow, that would be a special treat... say, i been hoping to get to facelift, for years...

can't this year, but i am going to press the issue a bit, for next year, i sure hope!

i got family, and extended family, and friends, all around there...
and in other parts of calif... :)

ekat, i bet it would have still worked, (it had stopped, at one point, in south texas, i think it was) ... it got rusted, :( and the cord, got messed up... i just can't remember why, though... perhaps in the house with the leaky roof?? i just can't remember... :( but i hung on to it, even until michigan, here... was a very very SAD loss...

wow, i was so shocked to see this, in that store... been to many such places all these years... and just never saw one...

did see old singers, though... and a few other things...
would be WEIRD if this had been mine... seems like it, in many ways... but, i think mine had a bit of rust??? on it, but perhaps not...

wow... :) and wow again!!!!

(had an old one from a friends, older mother in law, and i used it for the blitzo quilt, and you know... it DIED, stopped working, exactly AFTER his whole quit was DONE... wow, not sure if THAT will get fixed, either... did not smell burn-out... but have not been able to get anyone to look at it... is electric, but would have to go see the brand...

:)

thank you all, again, for all these kind helps...
the ol' taco family... wow...

Just a matter of replacing the old cotton/asbestos insulated cable with new modern cable then.

Way back when that thing was made they did not have the same grounding standards as now so it should be upgraded to have a case ground and three prong plug.

Any small appliance repair shop should be able to do this for you.

The nose knows on the motor. If it doesn't smell bad it's more than likely ok.

Hi neebee:

This is an old Singer that we had never fired up. It does work, the motor and light function, but it needs a belt replacement to actually function correctly. It appears that it may be as old as 1934. I am quite confident that it will work as soon as we get the belt on

hey there say, zbrown... from what i have heard over the years, these old sewing machines, were the best... once the 'over-time-things' get repaired, the really DO work again... unless, of course, wrong peices have been lost and can't be replaced...

many modern ones, well the cheap one, most likely don't sew extra good...
:(

Those old sewing machines were intended to do everything from crafting lace dresses to repairing Betsy's tack or horse blanket.

you can do about anything with them.
