I have a '05 TT-R 250 yamaha 4 stroke with big gun race header and can, and a '08 LTZ 400 quad Suzuki with yosh header and can re-jetted on a dyno.

Both for sale 1 owner bought brand new off the showroom always stored in my garage and never been crashed.

Interested?

The chief, not surprising to see you haven't changed.

I try to be balanced and open minded but it often comes off as liberal to those on the right and conservative to those on the left. Funny how that works.

I have guns and a makeshift shooting range on my property though I rarely use it because it gets boring to me pretty quickly. Doesn't mean I don't think we need better laws to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them.

I have a Yamaha YZ that I can ride on my property or take to a motocross track 20 minutes away. Doesn't mean I'm going to ride across unspoiled backcountry.

I have a 4x4 diesel crew cab pickup, but I also have a Prius that gets 50 mpg.

10 turkeys and a family of deer walked past my window this morning. No concrete to be seen.

throwpie, there was a dude in Idyllwild back in the late 70's / early 80's who used to tear around on one of those. Ron Ritchie I think was his name. Thing was a loud beast for sure.

The chief, not surprising to see you haven't changed.

ALERT ALERT.... I highly recommend you dial 911 immediately, tell the OP to get the local VFD over to your Manson wanna-be ranch. When they arrive have em pull out their JAWS and then plead desperately that they pull out them two bigass planks that are deeply embedded in your eyes.

Oh, found your "Prius"

And hey The Fet and Apogee, do you hear that? That's the sound of the political whiner threads calling. You're wanted in another room. Either stay and talk bikes or git off the porch!

Hypocrite

Trials is rad. Me and a bud topped out on a climb at Donner Summit one time and could see them riding pretty close by. We walked over and they were having a contest at the ski area. Really cool. Dudes could launch vertically straight up with no launch ramp and land on top of a 6 foot plus tall block. Seemed to defy gravity. That was the first time I ever saw motorized trials in person. I had to get out of there quickly because it's just one more fun looking sport that I wouldn't have the time to do. My plate is full and I barely have time to ride motocross.

Nut: I'll just let that call go to voicemail and delete it. I'm pretty dense but I realized political threads here are just people yelling at each other and never trying to understand another viewpoint. Wait... isn't' that this thread too? I guess it shouldn't be it should be a stoke thread!

Nice ride Fet. I've never ridden on the beach. The bottomless sand/silt in the desert still spooks me a bit but I'm getting better at it. I have a dream to ride from Calif to Cabo in the next couple years. Plenty of beach down there.

My brother leaves next week for his annual ride down the Baja peninsula.

I love sand riding. I almost bought a XR650R but then started riding the beach and realized I needed something lighter. The 250 two stroke is awesome. You have to get about 15-20 mph speed and then you float, anything slower and you sink in and the front tire digs in.

Jumps are everywhere and landings are wide open with not much to hit.

I rode once after a rain and it was awesome. Everything was smooth and untracked like a Powder day at a ski hill if you've done that.

The beach is the ONLY place I've been able to ride my bike wide open in 5th gear.

I started riding dirtbikes at 14, got my first bike (Honda CR125) at 15 and tore the sh#t out of every place I rode! The beach, desert and everywhere in between. After graduating high school I thought I was tough enough for a big bike and got a Kawasaki KX500. That bike tore me a new one. After enough wipe outs I came to my senses and downgraded to a CR250 and had a lot of fun. Trips to the dunes and desert usually involved lots of alcohol, 2-stroke, flames, and guns. I can speak with plenty of experience and say that the majority of dirtbike folks don't give a damn about the environment and regularly harass wildlife and destroy habitat. Some do it unknowingly but most think of that as part of the fun.

Eventually I moved on and discovered the joys of human powered activities and also developed an increased awareness of human impacts on the remaining natural areas. I felt deeply ashamed of my youthful destruction and swore off those type of activities. Lo and behold after 15 years had passed I decided I could re-engage in dirtbiking again but with an adult outlook and less destruction and so purchased an XR650. Damn was it fun again to ride mostly dirt roads but with occasional singletracks. Of course, I fell in with a regular crew who enjoyed roosting each other. Alas, I could feel those old guilty pangs returning and knew in my heart that those machines rip up the land and disturb every living thing nearby with noise, exhaust and "tearing sh#t up!" I gave it up a second time and resolved myself to less destructive, human powered fun.

I believe that I made the correct choice for myself. Every person is different and they need to make their own honest assessments of what they do and the impacts they make. The entire offroad industry is based on f*#king up the earth. The vast majority of those that partake leave trash, ruts, shell casings, and dead/damaged habitats in their wake and couldn't give 2 shits about it.

Stellar post Flex. It takes thought and discernment to ride and be a steward of the land. It is possible. Not common in the redneck world of offroad play, but possible.

I absolutely love the sound of a two-stroke. But my neighbors probably don't so I minimize my running the bike by my garage when I tune it.

I only ride in a State Vehicle Recreation Area, where the state government has apparently decided the impact on the environment is minimized.

I yield to any young kid out on the trail.

My teenage son has learned a lot about the necessity to control power, sometimes the hard way. And why wearing protection is important. Better he learn this on a trail than on a street.

It is a great way to share the day with your kids. They learn responsibility, caution, being prepared and how to control a vehicle.

If you haven't experience this, then don't criticize it. I watched 25 Little League tournament games in June as assistant tournament director. It took me several days to recover. I love to help kids in many sports, which have included golf, baseball, triathlons, soccer, and basketball. I taught my son and daughter to ride a 50cc dirt bike at age seven.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE SOUND OF A TWO-STROKE. My 2001 Suzuki RM 250 is raw, with a very peaky power band. At low rpm's it might die, but twist the throttle and second gear gets scary. It is like untamed monster.

Our Yamaha YZ250F four-stroke is much more manageable. A great bike. We also have a pair of Yamaha four-stroke 125's that are a great step towards riding a 250.

I bought an old Yamaha 225 four-stroke that was a dog. The frame is just heavy and the airflow was so constricted. I replaced the pipe and air filter, jetted the carbs, (How many of you know how to do that?) while trying to explain to my son how carbs work, (venturi principle, air/gas mixture cloud that literally floats around the opening waiting to be sucked in, how many of you knew that, etc.) and bought a wider set of handlebars for better front end control to make it safer for him. Sharing this project with my son was educational, bonding and fun. The 225 now rips.

I graduated from the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in 1972 in Kansas City. I have never heard so many gun shots at night as during that time. I used to drive my Honda 750 90 mph in the sweepers and 110 on the straights with many quarter-mile runs at age 18. I still love motorcycling. But trail riding is much safer than the streets and highways.

It seems sound odd that the prejudices displayed on this thread are coming from climbers, who are frequently the recipients of similar prejudices.

Adjusting Fet's earlier post....

"I think people have the right to ride motorcycles if they want to but I don't want to hear it or see the impacts. So keep it where it's allowed. But if I walk through a designated ORV area I'm not going to complain there's motorcycles there."

Seems pretty damn reasonable to me, micronut....as long as it stays in designated areas.
