Anyone over 21 can go buy as much booze as you'd like, no license required
Yet everyone chooses a gun over a car to murder with.
Take it over to the gun thread.

JE! I find you perhaps the most-interesting political poster on ST.
I may not always agree, but I usually find your thoughts entertaining & worth thinking about.
Re:
Still, I can't disagree with your comments about the stupidity of many Republican voters. Unfortunately, the stupidity of many Democratic voters is also apparent to those willing to look. Fox News, sad to say, isn't the only source of one-sided information.

Republicans flock to Fox in numbers that far surpass any one news source for Democrats.

John always thinks for himself, doesn't need anyone to tell him what to think. He deals with facts.
I just can't figure out why he always comes to the wrong conclusion! :-)

The "is a Obama a Muslim" thing is perhaps a little more nuanced than some of you would like to admit.
I would be willing to revise my view if someone more familiar with sharia law than I am contradicts me, but it seems to me that Obama is in fact a Muslim under sharia law.
Well, perhaps you are advocating that the US should adopt Sharia Law?
But we don't. So the freedom to chose one'a religion is the operative law in the US, the country of birth of the President, and where he resides.
Are you advocating that if you discover through genetic testing, that you have the DNA of those who were unquestionably Muslim, that you should be considered a "fifth columnist" who has invaded the US??
Should you be arrested for falsely identifying yourself on federal documents?

That's an interesting question. Cmac might be able to come up with some post counts for the longest threads here...

Yes John...the mistakes the democrats make for voting on/for higher minimum wages, health care, clean air, clean water, SS, medicaid, medicare, less military, more infrastructure, food stamps, unemployment, workers rights, climate change, women rights, civil rights and so on. The very nerve.

Don't the people have a role in any of this? (yes, of course). Congress controls the budget and we all elect them. These debates about presidential preference always ignore that simple fact.

We can't afford another Republican Administration, the gigantic increase in debt, the wars, the Right Wing SCOTUS "Justices".
But Trump, is different. I laughed when I saw the most recent Jeb! Ad. Almost looks like a Trump general election endorsement.

Ken, I think you missed my point, which is simply that the question of whether someone is a Muslim has a semantic and social component, and that according to the Muslim definition, Obama appears to be a Muslim (and/or an apostate--I'm not an expert on Sharia law, I can't explain the details, but I think I get the big picture, which is that if your father is a Muslim, you better not say you're not a Muslim).
So if someone answers "yes" to "is a Obama a Muslim," they may just be using the Muslim definition, which doesn't seem so outlandish in light of the question! (It's also possible that they believe Obama self-identifies as a Muslim, goes to a mosque, etc., in which case they are simply wrong, at least as far as Obama has publicly said).
Here's an interesting analogy.
Consider the question: is Obama black? Almost everyone would answer either "yes" or "yes, sort of" and then go into something about being biracial. Very few people would say "no" and leave it at that.
Now consider the question "is Obama white"? The answers would be essentially reversed--people would answer "no" or "no but . . ."
What's the difference between the questions? His mother was as much "white" as his father was "black," and to the extent it matters, he had nothing to do with any of his black relatives growing up.
The only difference is the social meanings of "white" and "black," which as far as I can tell, seem to be based on the views of nineteenth century racists. Why people feel compelled to import those views into the modern day is beyond me.

well, I for one question if Donald Trump is really a Christian.
I mean he says he is so I suppose we have to take his word for that.
But there just is so much doubt that I can't see myself voting for him unless this is cleared up.
