Had a great time on Dozier dome taking my wife up her first multi pitch climb. Weather was great in morning. The Meadow seems to be getting back the afternoon showers I remember seeing as a kid.

By the time we were driving back toward the East Park entrance it starting dumping huge rain drops along with hail. Lembert dome had rivers flowing down its West face and we could see some poor suckers stuck on the descent. My condolences as it looked miserable. If you had a Boogie board or kayak it looked like one hell of a ride.

Would like to point out always good to get an early Alpine start in the High Sierra and check forecast. By the way, the Meadows were very busy with many people/cars.[photo[photoid=421447]id=421446]

Hi Brock, My partner and I saw you out there. We went up that 5.7 crack to the right of you and then did the Errett routes after that. Given the start to the day further east, we were surprised that we got until 4 o'clock before the first raindrops arrived. I think the rain and hail must have started earlier than that to the east. My husband spent the day up near Conness and said it was hail, rain and powerful lightning on and off all day.

I disagree with you that the Meadows was crowded. I thought there were half the crowds one would normally see on a high summer weekend. I think the forecast kept a lot of people away.

Hope nobody got badly caught in the thunderstorm on Saturday.

Was expecting lines there, but we had Phobos and Deimos area to ourselves both days.

I was over in the White Mountains on Saturday and we got NAILED!! Pinned down in our tents for almost 8 hours. Hail, heavy rain and lightening strikes all around us for hours on end, FUN!

Hey phylp, my gf and I were at Dozier too, and I think that was probably you who I asked what route you were on (?). You replied you were rapping off Errett by Bit, using the anchors for a 5.10 route. Amazing how much rain and hail the Meadows got, while Tenaya Lake stayed clear and sunny.

Yes, we left Dozier and went to Daff and saw the clouds and heard thunder but didn't get any rain until we drove to the Meadows a 1/2 mile away. Torrents coming down Lembert Dome

Sounds similar to the epic hailstorm of 1988 when TTR and Nita took refuge under a fallen tree/jackstraw near Nelson Lake with a veritable bear attack on their lunch, and Sonegere and I nearly had to abandon camp nearby amidst a frightening pre-9:00 am lightning storm with 4" of hail and historic flash floods. With thoroughly drenched gear and bodies, we just kept hiking to keep warm until we were out. I still have the Chouinard Pyramid I used back then for refuge in two or three day storms, some with snow. Rule of thumb: stow away a good book.

I foolishly thought we could backpack into bear creek spire on 8/1. We got 15 minutes into the hike from mosquito flat around 3pm and received a wake up call of hail, lightning and intense downpours.

It was an clear announcement from the heavens to turn around and go bouldering at bachar boulders. The upper road immediately was a river of rock and mud. The scariest part was getting our food out of the bear box as I stood in water and unclipped the metal chains with lightning right overhead. YIKES!!!

But Sunday and Monday were great in the meadows.

We climbed the direct face on Lambert before the storm hit. There was some people climbing Crying Time and Regular NWF of Lambert still when we got off it. Hope they were alright. Kinda spooked us from doing Fairview Dome the next day.
