California website will let residents tattle on water wasters

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —California is launching a website that lets residents tattle on water wasters, from neighbors with leaky sprinklers to waiters who serve water without asking.

California has multiple restrictions on water use, including banning washing cars with hoses that don't shut off and restricting lawn-watering within two days of rainfall. But enforcement varies widely across the parched state.

Residents can send details and photos of water waste at http://savewater.ca.gov/ . Complaints are then sent to local government agencies based on the address of the offense.

The site went online Thursday as the latest conservation initiative. More than 300 agencies have signed up to see the details of water waste tips. Many local agencies already had their own reporting sites.

Tipsters wary of being outed as the neighborhood snitch can remain anonymous.








Be civil and in polite and neighborly fashion suggest that wasting water in a drought might suggest the remote possibility of being perceived as a dumb-ass by others, not yourself of course.

People that would call the State before going approaching or leaving a note for their neighbor should get a one way ticket to Yemen.

So when people use drinking water to hose dog sh#t off the sidewalk it does nothing but prove how spoiled rotten and inanely self privileged many Americans can be.

Maybe the guy switched to drinking bottled gatorade, only takes a shower once a month, and eats off of paper plates. Why not just look at someone's water meter? When they use to much they get a larger bill or fined. Should'nt it be a personal decision how you want to use your allotment of water? What's next peeking in windows and reporting people who have large freshwater fishtanks?

A rising and disturbingly real world contingency is to cease all piped water delivery and sell water at gas station style outlets.

How about a progressive rate schedule that's prohibitively high for those wanting to water their lawns? Instead of a 50 percent increase from tier one to tier three, bump it up 1000 percent.

No one says you have to run to the "water police" first without talking about the issue wth your neighbors.

And I seriously doubt that fines, interrogations and handcuffs will be the preferred course of action. I have a feeling they will mostly be educating.
