I've gone through 3 or 4 old A5 ledges where the nylon and/or stitching failed on the wall.

I think they were probly once bomber ledges, but 20+ year old nylon just might not be up for the abuse of a bigwall anymore.

True dat. Nylon starts to degrade pretty fast. Ledge beds will start to get tight as the nylon creeps smaller. Flys will start to lose the coating like a leper. UV is the real killer, but just plain old age will do them in also. Once it starts to go, like a seam on a bed, there is no real stopping it or fixing it when the nylon is old.

Just in case you want to try NOS from some dude's garage (not mine) I happened to notice this on ebay:

Edit:
Doh, nevermind I see yours is a double ledge.

That is a very old A5 Double, from the 80's. That fly has six vertical seams and combined with the fact that it is very old with an ancient urethane coating, I would not use that fly. We innovated the single seam fly in the early 90's, and also by that time oxford fabric with durable clay cote coatings became available.

By the way, the production A5 "alpine" double has always been the same size, 42.5" x 75". The very first double ledge I made (much to the proverbial butt of many jokes about 2 people in 1 ledge from the Fish camp, by the way!) was designed and made for Mugs Stump, who inspired the idea of the Shark's Fins. It also had the bed tensioning system--these were were all firsts for portaledge design. A few years back, I helped Runout Customs with design specs and provided patterns when he was getting started, and he pretty much duplicated the A5 design, with some improvements, In other words, the Runout fly IS the A5 fly design, so it should fit.
