Hi guys and gals,

If you're ever in the Bukidnon, Philippines, please do visit this relatively unknown but high-potential crag.

The Kiokong Crag is located in Kiokong Tourism Park, Municipality of Quezon, Bukidnon. This crag together with the adjacent karst formation located across the Municipality of Maramag is the vision of a local outdoor gear supplier and adventure outfitter called Adventure Technology Outfitters. Together with the local government, they are planning to develop the crags in this park as a major rock climbing destination of the Philippines.

Please check on his link in our blog for some initial preview of the crag.

Remember the area is so big it will take days to explore this limestone haven and will take years to develop.

Also check out these two other links. It features a huge wall in the area, which could potentially be developed into the Philippines' first big wall. Adventure Technology Outfitters also hopes to add a via ferrata there.

Hehehe! In our country, yup! In our immediate vicinity, sadly, nope. We are from Cebu in the Visayas (center of the country), and we had to travel to get Bukidnon in Mindanao (south of the country). Far, but very accessible because of the good road network there.

Looks not that tall to me..

Uhmmmm....exactly how tall is "tall" for you? The crag has more or less standard height for single pitches as with many other crags. Or you meant the potential big wall? That's more than 500 feet. Not sure if that is tall enough for you.

Mindanao, is the predominately Islamic island. That's safe for people of other or no faiths?

I like the Phillipines. Here, I'm chillin' after climbing the Mayon Volcano in the background, BITD.

Looks like a great area. When is the dry season? Is the electricity acdc? I have drill and removable bolts and regular hard ware for fa's. Also, how is the cost for a two-month stay at a near-by bungalow? Sash

Despite Philippines being ultra poor, the people have a great respect for the mountains and nature.
They hike and/ or climb to the tops of all the peaks and cliffs daily, and relish in the moment of summit-clarity with their friends.

Yes, it's safe. No worries about that. Don't believe too much in the media; they tend to excessively bloat (yes, that's redundant) the negative news here.

Dry season is from March to June. Electricity is standard AC/DC but at 220 volts (I believe the US is 110). There is no nearby bungalow there for the moment, but you can ask the locals to "adopt" you (i.e. homestay). They will be very willing to share their home with you if you're not picky on luxury.

Another option is to stay in Valencia City (just a 20 to 30-minute ride from the crag) where you can rent an air-conditioned room for P300 (USD 6.65) per night. I think you can negotiate for less if you're planning to stay for several months. Plus, you will enjoy the modern conveniences of a small city.

The only drawback is that you need to commute to the crag from Valencia and vice versa. But I think there are motorcycles for hire so after you are familiar with the road, you can simply drive yourself there every day. Motorcycles-for-hire are very common in the Philippines.

Visit the Vertical Bivouac Part 1 link and scroll down to the Contact Details section. You can coordinate with Mark Battung for transportation, accommodation, route development, etc; he's from Valencia. :)

Thailand has better

Well, that's up to you, and I respect your opinion. As an avid traveler, I don't really compare anything because one thing is unique from another. That includes crags.

What is a big wall to us might not be a big wall to others and vice versa.
