If you can somehow make it to Kaktovik, it is only a flat two day hike across the coastal plain to the Jago River valley, which is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been, along with the Aichilik, but that one requires a short bush flight.

Made it up and back

Half way

Part way at Eagle Plain. One of two places to get fuel on a 400 mile stretch of dirt road.

^^^^^^. 25.2. BAD. I was living in net hats, bug gaiters, you name it.

Then the BC fires and smoke were pretty intense.

But on the road, you can't beat it!, eh? (We practiced that a lot)

Edit: the whole 150 years of Canada has been awesome! Free park entrance and all the celebratory specials!

^^^^. Yeah. That's a problem. 24 hours of daylight.

So we are now contemplating a winter trek of the Dempster or the Dalton. Then we'll get those pesky lights!

Oh! Tombstones were beautiful!

How do you get to them?

I'm glad you did okay with the bugs. I think I'm a bug magnet!

We flew to Whitehorse, drove a friend's CRV from there, then did a 3-day hike.

There was frost one night, and wind most days. I heard the bugs were worse further north on the open tundra; less wind.
