Hey guys -
Hey guys, does anyone know where I can download a simple bouldering topo for Horse Flats in Angeles Crest.

I know there was a map in an old Rock and Ice (issue #90 of Feb 99') believe) issue as well as Frye's bouldering guidebook but I have not been able to locate the map/picture.

I only really need a basic map in order to get my bearings and a basic layout of the area.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

I still see Fry's Guide for sale sometimes. Last time was at the REI in Tustin. Bet you could find a used one on Amazon, etc.

Hi all, wifey and I went in search of Top Rope rock yesterday and got lost. We made it past Teflon Boulders, the Romeo Void, Main area, to Pie Slice, and couldn't find Top Rope rock after that. I imagined a faint trail to the right from Pie Slice, but we ended up on a bigger trail heading toward Bandido campground. We wandered for 30-60 minutes checking out out a few possibilities off trail, but ended up coming back to do a short fun route (5.10b/c) on Pie Slice.

Then a brief further exploration trying to find the faint trail to the right again, no such luck.

On the hike back toward Main Area, I saw some stuff that would be left and downhill from Pie Slice as you are hiking from trailhead through Main Area toward Pie Slice. Could this be the Top Rope wall and the Mtn project author was just a bit dyslexic?

My iPhone is a bit beat up, picture quality dropping off and it was never any good at zoom detail:

It would be great to see an overview map with relative scale for each of the sub-areas within Horse Flats. It would clear up a lot of questions and shorten the verbal descriptions.

Or maybe I just need to do it old fashioned style, get an old geezer to show me the way.

This is a good way to get there directly from the main road. Don't turn into the campground.

Go up the hill past the campground to the next parking area and then take the trail to the left heading West. You'll be approaching the wall from the top.

^^^yup, that's the best way to go. Save that picture to your iphone, then when you are hiking up the trail and see that boulder, take the use trail on your left.

The wall in nutagain's iphone photo is not the top rope wall.

I park just outside the gate, walk to the bulletin board and hang a right on the faint trail that leads uphill.

Careful outside of the campground, last year when I was up there the Dog Poodle Brush was prevalent.

there is a faint trail that leaves opposite campsite #5. there are a couple of places where you might have to duck down under some brush, but other than that, the trail is ok.

JLWong has it for the win.... drive past the campground entrance, keep your eyes peeled to the left... when you see an information board, park right there, walk up hill on a fire break, big burn on your right side, nothing burnt on your left (it did the job)....

20 min of walking brings to to the spot.

For clarity - the way I use is not the same as posted by others. Never tried driving past the campground for access to TR Wall. Didn't want anyone confused.
