Hey fellow climbers,
I am devising a plan and curious to see if there would be any willing takers to help me out and achieve a dream I've always wanted to pursue. I've been climbing since I was young, from gyms, Joshua Tree, Idyllwild, Yosemite, bouldering in Colorado and Utah, and managed to conquer the Lost Arrow when I was fifteen. Since then, I have fallen a bit out of shape and do not climb nearly am much as I wish I did. I am 24 years old now, and was just about to move to the beach from the mountains of Telluride when I suddenly realized, I am not getting any younger and it is time I achieve my life long goal of living and breathing rock climbing for one month straight. From there I hope to continue my life among the rock but I need a kickstart. For the next 2-3 months I will get in shape, build muscle, strengthen my hands, practice my knots, and climb as much as possible. At the end of this period of training and working as a restaurant server, I would like to camp and climb in JT, Idyllwild, and Yosemite Valley each and everyday learning and conquering routes I have always dreamed of. To do this I need a rope gun, a guide, a companion to make this possible. In return we will discuss a reasonable fee to cover the month of camping and climbing. Is this totally far fetched and ridiculously absurd of me? Perhaps. Will everyone on this forum gawk at me for trying to make this happen? Perhaps. But I know many of you were at my place once, and nobody can do this alone. If you have any interest and can hold onto a little bit of faith in me and my dreams, shoot me an email. chloerose7@me.com

How much is a one-month fee?

For the right price, I'd kick my job and climb solidly for a month, and then some. :)

Dig the focus. Make it happen. Life is short.

I am still trying to figure out what that fee will be. Seeming that some privates cost $250 a day and that that is impossible for me... What do you guys think a reasonable price would be?

The good thing is I am fun to be around, so it won't all be work!

You don't need to pay anyone. Go to those places and make friends. You need a rope gun and lots of people need a belay

Pirate guides will appear as a Jolly Roger above a sail. Only when your suffering is greatest and the cover of your distress allows the chivalry of dirt bagger code of conduct to stage an intervention.there are many well suited
And up to the task. . . start flirting with a gruff old man and plan to trade , for his younger version, but take a old guy as a beard; pretend he is your guy. Or roll with it if he is up to it.
Keep an eye out for what you like but take what you have and return the favors.

Set lofty goals,.Pay the rouge well, the guy has needs but they can be forestalled,
by paying with weed and chalk first but after 7 to 10 pitches,(like those up there!)
find a patch of earth and scratch that itch then find a shower

Probably more feasible to line up different partners for the 3 areas, maybe 9 days in each area. JTree may be out of season (too hot).
It might help to list the routes you want to do.
It might work better to move out here and develop partners normally at the gym/nights and crags/weekends as you get into shape.
Then you can swap leads and that may be a more satisfying goal to shoot for.
Plus you will be climbing with someone you know, so less randomness.

Or just spending the month doing whatever you can with whatever partners you find locally may be good.

Hiring a guide is a way to follow on goal climbs if you can't develop partners, but it takes $$.

Hi Chloe,
I highly recommend my friend Jay Anderson. He posts as "Jaybro" here on supertopo. He is a guide presently working in Moab, Utah. He guides for Moab Desert Adventures. He is a stellar climber and a great guy. I think a week or two climbing in Moab and Indian Creek would be a great start for your goals. I am sure you could work out an agreeable rate. Jay is well known here on Supertopo, and is a top offwidth climber.

If you have any trouble getting ahold of him, let me know and I will hook you up. My email is cmjeffe@attglobal.net.

Good luck!

Hey thanks everyone for your awesome and honest responses. I think many of you have made a great and valid point that I may indeed be going about this the wrong way. I've had some rad people recommended to me as well as reach out to me ready to climb and help me where it is needed.
