I remember when I first joined Supertopo.
I came for "Growing Up" and ended up finding much more, for better or worse lol!!!

Back then Locker and Cosmic would post up weekly trip reports.
More toking than climbing, more spray paint than splitters, but these guys were classic and it was obvious they just liked to have fun.
I vowed to climb with them some day.

Last October I was going through the hardest time in my life and a proper roadie to some favorite places was in order.

Two hours in at sunrise

Five hours and forty five minutes later...
...and nuthin' left to do but smile, smile, smile!

I'd made arrangements to meet Locker at Santana's.
I parked but didn't see him, so I called.
Turns out he was parked out back.... this was the first red flag, and when my suspicions grew.
Maybe he was in cahoots with the twakkerz that live there and he'd get a cut of all the gear they'd pillage from my car while I was grinding a burrito...
I wasn't too worried, I have a super gnarly guard dog.

My dog. This is why I'd told Locker I wanted to climb outside the Park.
"No problem dude, I have just the place. It's just a little drive."
Cue eerie foreshadowing music....

Needless to say, Locker is immediately super friendly and I decide to follow him to the crag in my car because there is no way in f*#king hell I'm leaving my car in the Santana lot...first.
Second, he seemed a little too friendly, if you know what I mean, and I'm not sure I wanted to hop in his high desert gangster ride.

So Locker proceeds to lead me on the most messed up local route goose chase ever, through some pretty unsavory Mad Max neighborhoods, until we finally reach the highway....
which we stayed on for, like, an hour and a half.
SANDBAGGED on the drive!!!!!!11111666

Some rocks would come into view, we'd pass 'em, again and again.
Where the f*#k is this dude taking me???

Pretty soon I can see I-15. If I hadn't set up camp in Josh I would have just continued on to Bishop.

Finally we turn off the highway and are on a dirt road. Left turns, right turns, forks....
I start thinking I should be leaving bread crumbs.
And now we're in full on The Hills Have Eyes territory. Remote high desert meth lab real estate.
All my suspicions are coming true, but I'm holding out hope that around the next bend will be a towering citadel of perfect rock.......

Actually, I'd been driving since 4am and just wanted to get out of the car!!!

Does the first part of this story seem like it's taking forever?
It did!!!

But we finally reach the crag, Cosmic rolls up, and we proceed to have a great afternoon of rock climbing (and all kinds of things that I don't approve of).
These guys are classic together and they're about as nice and kind and genuine and fun loving as any humans could be, and should be.

This day was just what the doc ordered and I thank both of you from the bottom of my heart.

These aren't the best photos but I'll let them do the talking now.

Fun day but now I have a two hour drive back to camp. 10 hours total today.

Next morning...

Bonus photo packy from the rest of the trip

surfed small waves for a few days then picked up Leggs

THANKS AGAIN LOCKER AND COSMIC!!!

ps

My friend Survival will say that I should have time released all these dumb photos, but...
f*#k it, there you go.

I wish those dudes would come up to Tahoe during the summer when I'm around. I'd love to meet 'em and share a rope-'n-dope:-)
