The Truckee Donner Land Trust (TDLT) has partnered with the Access Fund to purchase 10+ acres of land located on Donner Summit. This land contains 5 quality climbing crags, including the popular Black Wall, Road Cut and Peanut Gallery and offers a variety of styles from multi-pitch trad to technical sport climbing.
“Climbing on Donner Summit has been a destination for our members since we first opened,” says Sr. Director of Bay Area & Marketing, Stephanie Pound. “As part of our commitment to work with the community to preserve and protect climbing areas both near and far, Planet Granite is proud to support the [TDLT] and Access Fund on this project.”
Currently, the TDLT holds a Purchase & Sale Agreement to fundraise and acquire the property by December 1st, 2015. They must raise $280,000 to finalize the sale. The Access Fund holds a lease agreement to address liability concerns raised by the private landowners and assist in stewardship.
Of the $280,000 needed, about $60,000 has been raised so far. With this potential $80,000 donation, the climbing community and Planet Granite will have donated over 30% of the remaining needed funds. Join us and help Save Donner Climbing forever!
Once the land is purchased, the Access Fund and TDLT will work with the local climbing community to create a volunteer climber coalition to help implement a recreation and stewardship management plan for the Greater Donner Summit area.
