On the Corner

I had been standing outside the Martix.
On the corner.
I met a young lady named Sage.
She did not claim to be wise except in the ways of 'shrooms.
She had none to share and was looking.
We parted, never to see one another.
I lit a joint and offered it to the laid-back individual next to me.
"Can you spare some change, man?"
I reclaimed the spliff and took a long hit, then gave it to him and went back inside.
I had a hand stamp.
I was fluorescing myself.
The flower child spooked when she saw me glowing.
She said, "Yer good. Yer toasted. Enjoy the band. They're pretty good.I know the piano guy, what's his name.
"Pigpen. Weird name, nice guy. Great voice, too."

Well they took away my name and gave me a number instead

Well all the things I used to know seem so far behind
There's a lot of new things that are running around my mind

Bushman, I really was just looking for some sympathy with that email...forgeddaboudit.

I was graced by neebee with some comforting words and an ethereal hug yesterday...the boo-boo was kissed and an ointment applied verbally.

Thanks, ol' Taco buddy. You sure have a lot of them Taco buddies, sure enough.

What caused it, besides temporary depressive thoughts spanning the last several weeks --in spite of appearances, I do not always find dancing enjoyable, which is tragic in itself--was the damage I did to my camera's lens by carelessness/fate/whatever.

I now gotta tell Barbarian the Noble Soul how I treated his gift.

I'm sorry, but shet happens, Scott. What can I tellya?

It still works without the auto-focus, but it's very "sticky" when I turn the barrel focus. Tetchy, it is. it's far worse than in the longer lens, which has the same problem, no auto-focus.

But it works, and there'll be another lens in my future to which I look forward.

I'm putting on my shades, neebee. Here we go.

Have a good day -- I'm off to see the pancake doctor.

He's giving a lecture at the Cinema Cafe, I've heard, so maybe I can scarf a freebie.

That was a tonic! I'm far less unhappy as a result, because...

YOU CAN NEVER TELL.

I ran into a delightful pair at the Cinema. Tim and Penny were in town from Mariposa for a live model session at the MAC, the Merced Art Center. They invited me to join them after we'd sat and got acquainted. I'm no great shakes as a sketch artist, and this was my first time sketching from a model.

Well, it was an experience, I can tellya. This was in a room on the 3rd floor of the MAC. It is used for a dance studio, with other office space and art-making space for the classes that are given for special folks, like Oscar, whose work I'll show you as I come to it.

The photo I took of a couple in the window of the cafe on November 5, a Saturday, who were compatibly working their own separate crosswords over breakfast, came to mind when first I noticed them at the same table. I'd been having a fine conversation with the off-duty cook, Abel, who was in for coffee and heading for the Church in the Park (Applegate Park, not YNP) He left and I looked around and there was this distinct similarity between the two couples, the Crosswords and Tim & Penny.

I introduced myself to them and they invited me to have a chair, so I did.

Penny's an artist, Tim as well. Fun people. She has been around Mariposa a long time. She knew the boys in Camp 4 in the sixties: the two Chucks, Ostin and Pratt, the Boss, Batso, and so on. She may have met Glen Denny and would not be surprised if she had not at least HEARD of Fred Beckey.

She's known Linda Abbott for over thirty years, as well. Linda sometimes comes to the live model sessions. It's fun to compare their different styles but I won't dare, as criticism is not called for, but appreciation is more appreciated by all, as Kid President might tellya.

This was a great half-day so far. I made two friends. I've figured out how to use the camera in different ways, too.

So, as you indicated in so many words yesterday, neebee, the trail grows light, the burdens grow light, and the light enters and spreads from within, in the way that light does.

There is no light without the dark. Contrast gives texture. Good and plenty vs. bad and worse. Really bad poetry and really nice verse.

I had a plate of home fries, not pancakes. And three big mugs of coffee for a change. I'm still buzzin'.
I'm gonna do a Gnome and let it ride for a bit so I can go lie down. I need to take my BP and do the Medical Check-in thing, too. I got a new cuff for the sphignono-mono-meter. (Spell-checker's having a nervous fit over that one!)

Sestina

I watch with wonder this approach of Fall
How do trees know when to colour leaves?
How far can one goose hear the southern call?
Who tells the birds to fill the skies?
What signals orchestration of the freeze?
I wonder who it is who plans it all.

Today, I glimpsed a pattern to it all
In stretch of sky and soft leaf fall,
In icy lace of pond's first freeze,
In last song as the warbler leaves.
I think I saw a hint in snowy skies
As all of Earth responds to timeless call.

If the geese flew lower, I would call
Them in and turn them, one and all,
To leave the labours of the icy skies,
And fill the fields, to glean the harvest fall
That the careless reaper always leaves
In stubble where the furrows soon will freeze.

Before the days grow short and dark and freeze,
Before the sun retreats too far to call,
Before the warmth of summer finally leaves,
I'd like to make a study of it all,
And parse this fascination that is fall,
To know it well from icy pond to graying skies.

But who am I to wish to read the skies?
As if it is a pattern I could freeze
In one still place and label it as "Fall"
And hold it static at my beck and call,
So that, with time, I could study it all,
Piece by piece, where nothing ever leaves.

Yet I wonder how I'd still patterns of leaves
That swirl their dance of colour in the skies,
Before they reach the fate that waits them all.
Before they fade and curl beneath the freeze.
I wonder - Does the Earth send each a call,
To tell each Dancer where to fall?

I think each of us leaves without the all-
knowing reason for the call for Earth to freeze.
And do we dance a while on skies, before our time to fall?

Eggs-cellent eggshell-eration from a motorcycle is a must, B.^

Here's Oscar Onsurez, who may be "slow" to some, mentioned upthread.

But he's steady. And he paints well, too, according to some.

Again, I'm no critic.
Here are some pics from the live modeling session.
