Mind led body
to the edge of the precipice.
They stared in desire
at the naked abyss.
If you love me, said mind,
take that step into silence.
If you love me, said body,
turn and exist.

Hey Mouse,

Just saw your post about the email. It's not in my inbox or spam filter. Maybe resend it?

I just sent myself a test email from here and didn't get it yet either, maybe I'll get it later?

[Click to View YouTube Video]Let's see if any big, bad politards have the guts to tell Kid President that he's full of beans.

I have genuine feelings about this thread, though I'm not going to reveal them. However...it is gratifying to see that this core group is so together and clever, productive, somewhat original, etc, thereby promoting whatever it is that we promote here, which includes, apparently, The Great American Milkshake, a thing that was seemingly killed by Mickey D and the Gang years ago just prior to the Burger Wars, the days, even, before the advent of the Super Taco itself; and it pleases me no end.

So, guys and girls, thank you for keeping it up, whatever it is -- garbledy or not, sense or not. In Middle-Muddle Earth there are lots of colors and flavors to choose because we colors mix so freely in the campfire, a spark here, one there, another in a TR.

Take your pick and it's all free, thanks to Wandaful Wandaful sponsors like

CHILO'S CHILE of Mesilla, NM

WES & WANDA'S HOTSY=TOTSY CLUB and DANCING SOCIETY
(2 miles up from the Freight & Salvage and Ashkenazi.)

There could have been a Dylan Thread, but that never happened...no need, really.

There was a short-lived Berkeley thread, but it died from neglect.

There have been threads devoted to our modern forms of highway transport and to motorcycles...so many, really, they deserve their own thread.

And a Poets Thread, not just a poetry thread...well, poets are special, aren't they? Though poets are famous for denigrating their own work, We the People of Planet Mirth and it's lovely companion Serena, love our poets more than our novelists.

Or we tend to place them on higher pedestals, I should say.

Poetizing is a tough racket, though -- mostly thankless and not very useful any longer. It is a lot like climbing -- the poet generally writes for himself and in spite of himself, which is where the muse thing originated, I imagine -- the idea of musing and being inspired is poetic in itself.

I have found in writing poetry that ellipses and dashes have places and it behooves the editing poet to use them sparingly. My words of advice.

Dingus, I'll have one straw and two chocs, PLEASE.

something from nothing

the silent sound of gears moving slowly
the sound of pen scratching or keys tapping
if it's a process I'm not aware of it
when I am processing the words
but here you are
a poem for you
because i'm saying it is a poem
and i have a friend who never lies
and he would probably agree
if he were here
(which he is not)
and i expect that he'd be thrilled to know
that he's in a poem
one more time by me
though in the last one he met death
in the shower not on a climb
and he lived to tell about it

[Click to View YouTube Video]This is not happening...the worst night of our lives.

"Neidermayer...DEAD!"
"We gotta take these bastards."
"We have to go all out...a really futile and stupid gesture."

And we're just the guys to do it.

So there is a good reason to study history, according to the eminent Blutarsky,
who later tried to climb Entrance Exam and FAILED
due to having carried too many haul bags of beer
and not enough ice, according to legend,
and so had to descend on Gnome's fixed line.

There is/is not a good reason to study poetry, which is boring, frankly.

It is far better to keep poetry in your life than to neglect its call.

A Poem a Day Keeps the Mind At Play and the Doctor Away

Sit down, think of your past
or if you prefer, your present or your future.
Don't be timid or coy --
think back to when you were a boy
or if you are not one,
a girl or another sex...
how many are there, anyway?
When did you first enjoy the other sex
or if you prefer, the same gender sex or the other?
Not that it is anyone else's business, of course.
Unless it comes up in the poem you are about to write.
Free verse or legitimate?
ALLCAPS or nocaps?
Spencer, short and brisk and to the point,
or Spenser, flowery and perfumed with grace?
Ironic or straight?
Satire or parody?
Insight or narrative?
You need a good title.
I take a tiny hit and choose one.
You may not choose to indulge,
but the title is the first thing read by readers.
Sometimes I use sativa
and sometimes indica.
I no longer drink.
My mental crutches abound,
just like choice phrases
which are only waiting like figures in stone
for my chisel and mallet
to fashion an idyll
or an epic,
but I don't do epics --
though I have epicked once or twice
when climbing.
I never wrote about them in poetic language.
I should.
But maybe later.
